She is currently docked at SA shipyards, a ship repair company based in Durban. S. A shipyards was given the mandate to complete all tasks related to SAMSA the vessel.
She has undergone extensive maintenance in this period with extensive checks been performed on all her systems, all faults were repaired.
She was dry docked where her hull was sandblasted and painted as well as having all anodes were replaced. This was done in order to maintain her exceptionally good hull.
The galley was refitted completely.
New Racor filters were installed as per the more modern tugs.
All fuel was drained and tanks were cleaned.
The fresh water pressure system was modernised as per there latest tugs.
Her seals were checked on the Z- pellors and all oil was replaced.
Slawek the ship repair manager from S. A Shipyards has taken a personnel interest in the tug and reckons she is better than the new tugs.
The tug is Japanese built with main engines which start with a single turn every time even after standing for a month.
In order to improve on our initial investment we have spent over $ 200 000,00 on maintenance. In other words she has not gone into decline after we bought her 3 years ago from Transnet in fact she is a far better ship.
