|After more than a decade of love and attention, the iconic "Miss Australia" is now offered for sale. The sellers are moving away from the water and reluctantly putting their much-admired vessel on the market at a realistic price.
Powered by a Gardner 5LW diesel, she was built by W. D. Hughes of Elsternwick out of Huon Pine, and launched in 1954. Originally built for Bernie Dowd, founder of the Miss Australia Quest, she has a colourful history and was a prominent promotional vessel on Port Phillip Bay during the 50's. In recent years the current owners have done a wonderful job of restoring her original condition and none of the character has been lost.
As well as "show-off" beauty, "Miss Australia" has some practical features such as good accommodation for 5 in 2 double berths and a single, an enclosed bathroom with hot shower and electric flush toilet, plus a decent galley which includes fridge + freezer and stainless Broadwater stove/oven, and gas compliance. The saloon opens to a comfortable aft cockpit with access to the low profile flybridge and a second helm station with hydraulic steering. The inventory includes Coursemaster auto-pilot with a remote, GPS plotter, sounder, VHF and 27 meg radios, solar, electric anchor windlass and built-in docking lights. There are some lovely period features such as ornate timber carvings, antique spotlight and brass fittings.
"Miss Australia" is not for everyone, she is a classic in every sense of the word and deserves an owner who will relish the work required to maintain her current condition and even improve her. They will be rewarded through owning a piece of history, a beautiful craftsman built boat with magic looks and superb lines. Call for a detailed spec sheet and more info.
