|Very stable and big on living space. There is a huge cockpit and aft galley, walk around decks to assist with berthing, a flybridge with plenty of seats for sharing the views, and an accommodation plan that spans three or four cabins and two heads.
The big lazarette grants access to the freshwater tanks and pump and the hydraulic steering, which runs off a PTO motor. All batteries are low-maintenance. The 17.5kW Onan generator lives in the port side engine room, accessed through a deck hatch and short ladder. Each engine room has fans, redundant Racor fuel filters, and access to the sea strainers and coolant bottles forward.
There is plenty of room around each of the 18lt in-line six Caterpillar C18 motors, so you can dip oils, check belts and spot leaks. The mainly 24V big-boat DC system features numbered tin wiring run in cable trays and the boat has an inverter for at-call 240V power as well as a transformer for 110V compatibility in America where she was heading for the Miami Boat Show. Though a trifling thing, the engine room doors weren't lockable.
Three steps lead to the walkaround decks, past the toughened 10mm glass windscreen fitted with Hepworth multispeed wipers, a central sun pad that turns the foredeck into a great place for sundowners, to the big Muir windlass that spills the supplied 70m of chain into a veritable cavern. There were deck washes and scope to turn the huge bow storage locker into crew quarters.
The cat's beam is taken well aft, contributing to a large cockpit with the Opacmare hydraulic platform, offering serious entertaining and watersports space. Among the features were a moulded table that, with the rear lounge and loose chairs, can seat six for al fresco dining.
A U-shaped aft dinette can seat 10. There were two aft sun lounges that, if you added clears around the rails, could safely contain the young kiddies when cruising. The port side amenities centre contained a fridge and sink but needed a griddle.
The cherrywood and leather furnished saloon with high headroom, Bose Lifestyle entertainment system, a lounge for six, wet bar and giant aft galley with icemaker.
The guest cabin has three adult-sized bunks, hanging locker, drawers, bone-and-chocolate bedspreads, reading lights, TV and sound system, opening portlight and air-con outlet. The VIP guest cabin has a transverse double bed, hanging locker, LCD TV, sound system, air-con and plenty of storage space. Both cabins are private, and not far from the luxurious communal head with Corian counters, Amtico mock-timber flooring, twin extractor fans, a Techna loo, accommodating shower with shower stall and the washer/dryer in a cupboard.
The forward cabin unfurls like a real stateroom, with acres of floor space around a central king-sized bed dressed with a classy Aztec-patterned bedspread. There are walk-in wardrobes, bedside tables and drawers, a settee and dresser with table. The hatches have insect and privacy screens.
