I am selling my lovingly crafted Bruce Kirby designed NIS18 trailerable ketch with folding mast system. Built by myself from a Rob Ayliffe laser cut gaboon ply kit and Australian Hoop Pine over a 4 year period, she has proved to be everything I hoped for - arguably the IDEAL small trailerable yatch. Love the easy handling seaworthy design so much I have upgraded to an NIS29.

I have sailed mostly on Western Port and Port Phillip Bay in Victoria. Trips further afield include the Gippsland Lakes for the Marlay Point Overnight Race, Canberra on several occasions, Sydney Harbour and The Pittwater.

READY TO SAIL - NOTHING TO DO TO GET UP AND GOING FROM THE MOMENT YOU PICK HER UP!

URGENT SALE DUE TO CHANGED CIRCUMSTANCES - COUNCIL HAS PULLED THE PIN ON STREET PARKING OF TRAILERS SO SHE HAS TO MOVE ASAP.

She is easily single handed onto, on and off the water, quick to set up and take down (25-30 minutes from pulling up or pulling out after a bit of practice, depending on how organised you are etc). She can be operated entirely from the cockpit when on-water, including setting and weighing anchor, reefing, motoring and setting the centreboard. She is wonderful and graceful to sail, well balanced and self righting - the 300kg of lead in her shallow keel gives her the feeling of a much larger vessel (fantastic when on the bays in steep swells, waves and wind over 25kts!). Draft is only 200mm or thereabouts with board up. Slip her up the beach or into the shallows and walk ashore.

Masts fold and sails stay on making it easy set up and take down. Plus the cabin is always clear with no need to store sails.

The cabin space is deceptively large, due to the convex bottom and cabin top, and the offset swing "centre" board gives clear central floor space: full sitting head room for large bodies (I am 185cm tall and 100kg, and I have taller friends who have joined me). Shoulder-high standing room in the companionway. Two can comfortably sit inside and have a cuppa - three if you want to lounge around on the v-berth. I have slept in her on many occasions and found her comfortable in the camping style. You can stand inside and cook on a campstove set across the cockpit footwell, sheltered from the breeze and weather at anchor - wonderful!

Assembled with Boat Craft Epoxy products throughout. 9mm gaboon ply topsides, deck, cockpit and cabin sides. Triple laminated convex bottom (20mm thick with 3 x 6 mm Gaboon ply epoxy sandwich). The cabin top has two layers of 4.5mm Gaboon ply and 125gsm glass and epoxy. 900gsm bi-axial glass plus 200gsm standard weave glass epoxy bottom to waterline, 200gsm on topsides above the waterline, decks, cockpit and cabin sides.

Finished with International Toplac Emerald Green topsides, Boat Craft Pacific Cop-R-Bote anti-fouling from the waterlne down, Boat Craft Aqucote clear and white on decks, coamings, cockpit and interior.

V-berth and tunnel berth (both 200cm long): Currently has EVA30 foam mat - 40mm EVA15 closed cell mattress foam is included for you to finish bedding to meet your needs.

5 external lockers (two piece plastic sealing hatches), 2 internal lockers with sealed hatches and 2 below the v-berth for med kit and cooking utensils. Side shelves with top tray for the bibs and bobs of everyday sailing.

Stainless telescopic boarding ladder on the transom (VERY handy).

Binks sails (main and mizzen, tan colour), three slab reefs main and two in the mizzen, with Riley and Ronstan running gear.

Spun tapered aluminium masts (extra length for increased sail area and light wind performance). Aluminium booms. Aluminium alloy tabernacles for mast folding system.

Yamaha 2.5hp (2007) four-stroke outboard with "swivel reverse" and integrated fuel tank in good condition (new waterpump kit Mar-2017), plus 5L jerry can.

Vertical rise/drop rudder blade, auto pop-up design with flick up tiller handle, and custom oversize cast bronze gudgeons and pintles (12mm pin).

Riley and Ronstan running gear throughout, and Donaghys sheets, uphauls and control lines.

3 x tube fenders, deveral 8-10m 10mm Docking lines.

27mhz GME radio with dual watch, plus mast mounted aerial (50ohm coax).

Plastimo 90mm fixed compass with back lighting.

Trem nav lights, mast light, and multi-switch panel (backlit).

35Ah sealed battery in battery box with accessory sockets and master switch, 10w solar panel with charge controller to keep it topped up. Internal cabling is run through conduit to keep things neat.

Sink with pump tap and space for 40+ litre bladder.

15lb plow anchor + 6m short link chain + 50m 10mm nylon rode. 3 x 450mm inflated fenders plus 10m x 10mm bow and stern lines included.

Two adult PDF1 jackets included, a waterproof torch, boat hook, inshore flares and bailing bucket.

Custom fully galvanised single-axle Premier trailer. She tows very well - has done about 5,500 km on interstate highways behind a Ford Falcon and a Holden Jackaroo.

Test sail can be organised in Melbourne from St Kilda or Newport, Geelong from St Helens, or in Canberra (I travel there occasionally).

Happy to discuss details and experiences with anyone genuinely interested.

Reasonable genuine offers considered. Materials cost includng EVERYTHING was $35K, more than double that if you include labour (I paid about $10k for professional help along the way with the really tedious bits like fairing the hull - perfect!). So less than half the price of a new one and in no time you'll be out and about messing about in boats!

CALL OR EMAIL ANYTIME WITH QUESTIONS AND TO ARRANGE INSPECTION AND A TEST SAIL.
