Are you in the market for a comfortable weekender hat won't break the bank when refuelling, a comfortable speed at one with the sea rather than fighting it and being thrown everywhere? Well this beautifully designed Schionning 230 Powercat may just be what you are seeking. For those us coming down from larger sailing craft or displacement/semi displacement cruisers, this is a manageable boat for two adults to remain on the water and greatly reduce the costs of doing so.
As a weekender, the boat is fitted with all the wants and needs to remain comfortable, relax and even enjoy a night's sleep. The cockpit is large, easily accessible either from the transom or through the lockable cabin door and peripheral padded seating for 6. The extended hard top provides shelter from the sun and weather and with full drop down curtains, provides further adequate shelter.
Stepping into the helm/galley mid ships, this area is light and airy and you feel at one with your surrounds through the massive windows. The forward mid-section of the windscreen opens allowing breeze to flow though this area and also access to the fore deck via the steps. The galley is well set up and also the bench tops are at a great height for us "tallies" to whip up the days catch or a big breakky! With a stainless steel dual burner gas stove, 60l 12v Waeco upright fridge, pressurised water tap and sink with under the bench tops loads of storage for the supplies and crockery.
To the port side a comfortable lounge has been incorporated into the design and the table top lowers and with the extension cushion atop, makes for another large single adult bed or you may squeeze two young ones on. Again storage abounds under this lounge. Opening the cabin privacy screens is like stepping into Dr Who's phone booth and realising Tardis... The cabin opens into a cavernous area with a queen size be, storage and also an electric toilet! Ventilation is again incorporated into the foredeck for those balmy hot still nights.
The rig is efficiently powered by dual Honda 40Hp 4 strokes, these 2007 model motors have recorded a low 37 hours on the hour meter and the mechanical testing can't fault them. The rig cruises at a very comfortable speed of 14 to 16kn sipping a misery 8 l of fuel an hour combined!
Trailering if this is your thing is via the Felk Cat design tandem axle trailer, the design makes it very easy for launching and retrieving and as the boat is made from a balsa core epoxy overcoat weight is under 2 t empty of fuel and water.
So as a weekender or family cruiser, with dual batteries, solar panel atop, full covers and comfy bedding and a galley that is very well set up, there isn't much on the market that ticks all these boxes and gives you such an excellent ride on the sea. We welcome you to come and look over this truly unique and special vessel at John Crawford Marine.
