||There are many excellent features including a Wishbone Boom that helps to spread the loads on the mainsheet due to its smooth self-vanging action. Read more about the Wishbone at YBC site.
Also the two engines perform separate functions. They're located one in each hull with dedicated ease of entry hatches with full height head room and lighting.
The hulls are the Catana hulls, angled at 7.5 degrees to optimise performance under sail.
Construction is Vinyl ester resin outside with 1200 gram triaxle glass on the hulls inside and outside over a 25mm high density foam core, also the decks.
Vinyl ester gives better protection against osmosis and to date there have been no signs.
A second 1200 triaxle strip 600mm each side of the centre line of the hull was added and 600 gram chop strand mat up to the waterline. This will give good impact protection. A keelson 150mm runs the length of the centre line inside each of the hulls giving longitudinal stiffening.
The fore beam has a Kevlar 40mm rope running through it in the event that the beam breaks. On impact the rope will support the rig.
Dagger board construction is foam with cedar centre designed to give on impact without loading forces into the hulls.
The area at the case end where the board’s trailing edge would act as a knife to split the hull has had 300mm of foam core removed and solid glass laid in its place. This will protect the hull if the board impacts, no slitting will occur.
From the sacrificial foam on the bow there is a watertight crash bulk head followed by 2 watertight bulkheads. Intermediate bulkheads are ring beams. The floors in each hull are watertight throughout the boat, divided by watertight divisions 1 meter apart.
Engine rooms have 2 water tight bulkheads with bilge pumps installed. Rear transom steps are also watertight.
The rear seating is completely watertight.
Rudder and stocks can be removed without haul out.
The under wing in the cockpit is a double floor 150mm apart consisting of 30mm foam core and 1200 triaxle glass. There is a frame work between the floor of 600mm gridded framing for maximum strength against slamming of waves. This provides a very strong area where the worst of wave impacts can occur on catamarans.
The bridge deck clearance is 1 meter which is above the average 600- 700mm on most cats.
All in all, this cat has been designed for single handed sailing which the owner can attest to and with her live aboard comforts she is a very comfortable home.
There are many other features that this cat has that put her in the serious blue water category
