|Another quality-checked listing from Nautilus Yacht Management!
We are proud to introduce this charming classic timber yacht built circa 1930. Fully restored by Balmain shipwrights and presenting in absolutely beautiful condition, with no expenses spared on maintenance over the 48 years she has been owned by her current owner, nor on the refit, which lasted several months.
Stepping on board we were first impressed by the size of her cockpit, which can accomodate up to ten people, has a wide seat that can be used as a berth when off watch at night. The cockpit floor is in perfect condition, with two large cockpit drains and an access hatch to allow easy maintenance on the engine. The saloon table can be transferred to the cockpit for lunch with friends or dinner under the stars. It fits on a beautiful timber mast section designed by a shipwright and secured by a customised stainless clip over hand stitched leather.
In the cockpit are displayed the autopilot controls, (Autohelm ST4000), depth sounder, instruments, etc. )
Her tiller is exquisitely varnished, as all other trimmings on board. (A full size weather cover has been made for the boat, which will keep them pristine longer). The very strong dodger offers good shelter. It is in very good condition, although the clears could be treated or replaced for better visibility.
'Michele's' companionway is wide but safe at sea, with easy steps down into the main cabin, which is wide and well proportioned, with over 6' headroom.
Immediately to stbd is the navigation area and large, plumbed ice box, switchboard, instruments, VHF and navigation electronics, which are recent models.
The galley is bigger than expected on a 28' boat, with a 2 X burner stove with cover, sink and dedicated storage.
On either side of the cabin, which is also the saloon / dinette with its lovely expandable table are two full size single bunks with comfortable mattresses recently re-upholstered. They are fitted with lea-cloths for use at sea. The shipwright in charge of her restoration designed and fitted a system to easily convert the whole area into a giant double berth, which an be used laterally on longitudinally, whichever works best for you. The back rests cushions become the mattress inserts for the double berth.
Shelves on either side provide storage for bits and pieces and there are also large storage compartments beneath the bunks.
In the fore-peak is a porta-potti, which is brand new, as well as access to the anchor well and chain. A large hatch provides plenty of light when open and cross ventilation. It is made of heavy timber, safe at sea and created in a way to not allow water in, even in bad weather.
'Michele' is a real little traditional yacht, at home on the swell or tacking around the bay. She has all the charm of lore but recent upgrades have made her handling a breeze, with self-tailing winches, furling Genoa, lazy jacks, modern instruments and an electric anchor winch.
We sailed this little gem ourselves from Balmain to Pittwater on the 29th of February 2016 and were impressed with her ease and grace on the ocean. Her turn of speed was quite satisfactory and she balanced easily on the breeze. She kept a dry deck in spite of the 2m swell and was an absolute pleasure to sail. Originally moored in Adelaide, she was sailed from South Australia to Sydney several times, including her last trip from Melbourne 2 years ago.
Her large cockpit, full headroom inside the cabin, well equipped galley and twin bunks converting to queen size berth, she can comfortably accommodate a couple for extended coastal sailing or a romantic weekend up the river. Michelle has been sailed and inspected by our team and is ready to be the pride and joy of her next owners.
