|Big price reduction. Owner relocating. This beautiful yacht must be sold!!
A true piece of Sydney's maritime history Athene was built for David Carment in 1905 by premier Sydney shipwright William Ford. Successfully raced and cruised on Sydney Harbour, Athene remained in the Carment family until 1950 and is listed on the Australian National Maritime Museum, Register of Historic Vessels. A reluctant sale due to relocation, Athene is the perfect yacht for leisurely sails on the harbour, picnicking in your favourite bay or putting her to task against yachts of similar or modern vintage and will draw the admiration from all that pass.
Constructed of epoxy sheathed, carvel planked New Zealand Kauri she is solid and very dry. With classic long lines, deep keel and overhung transom she's not only an object of beauty but a solid performer. From her extended Oregon bowsprit to the elegant stern, Athene characterises traditional style inside and out with deep varnished bright work, bronze fittings and white 2 pack paint. Modifications to the original design include Bermudan sloop rig and extended coach house making her easy to manage and providing additional saloon space.
Recent maintenance includes an extensive refit in 2010 where she was stripped, refastened, corked and repainted. Athene's decks and coach house were repainted again in 2014 with new upholstery added to enhance her already beautiful interior.
Athene will suite timber yacht enthusiasts or lovers of all that is beautiful. Priced for a quick sale, if you're in the market for simple, easy to use classic yacht Athene will not disappoint.
