|'Acrospire III' is a Classic Gaff Topsail timber cutter yacht, designed by Charlie Peel and launched in 1923. She has been immaculately restored and superberbly maintained by the current owner. To see her under full sail is a sight to behold, and being owned by one of Australia's premier sailmakers, she has a fine wardrobe of beautiful sails.
'Acrospire III' contested the 1928 Sayonara Cup also successfully competed on Port Phillip Bay in 'A' class for over a decade. She still sails in the Classic series on Port Phillip.
Her restoration involved complete replacement of all ribs plus new keel floors and deck beams of Iroko / Tasmanian Celery top. All fastenings and keel bolts were replaced, and exotic rigging added to save weight aloft. No expense has been spared to maintain her in the custom she deserves.
