|Built in 1965 by Geoff Hammond in Melbourne, Mia Mia has a rich history including participation in numerous international regattas, duty as the radio relay ship for the Sydney Hobart yacht race for a number of years and the cruising holiday "dream come true" for thousands of people from around the world.
At 74 feet (22.6M) this magnificent ketch has been thoughtfully upgraded with bowthruster, Raymarine electronics, twin furling headsails and electric main sheet winch; while the ultra reliable Garner diesel, twin generators, stainless rigging and comprehensive sail wardrobe provide the foundations for serious long distance cruising.
Mia Mia is in current Victorian Class 1E for 49 passengers (14 berthed) and class 2B (200 Miles from the coast) for 12 passengers. Her inventory is comprehensive not only in terms of the machinery, electronics and rig/sails but also with regard to all of the small items needed to operate a successful charter business including spare parts, dive and game equipment, Gemini RIB with 60 HP, entertainment systems (6 x T. V's), commercial size refrigeration, clothes washer/dryers, linen, crockery, tools and so much more!.
The general design and layout provides private spaces for passengers to find solitude both above and below decks, soak up the sun, enjoy the company of up to 48 other passengers on the very social main deck or partake in some diving, waterskiing or just a cool swim from the fold down transom platform. The cabin layout provides separate crew quarters and the sheer volume of the boat lends itself to future remodelling should more accommodation be required.
Mia Mia has had a full time skipper and crew carrying out constant and methodical maintenance which is reflected in its overall condition. In 2011 she underwent a major refit with expenditure of over $500K bringing her up to a modern standard while maintaining that lovely classic feel that makes her so special. In 2014 major works including a complete hull re-spray and comprehensive core system maintenance was completed ensuring that she is in tip top shape.
If you are ready for a serious sea change and ready to explore the world, looking for a lifestyle business or seeing to supplement your existing commercial fleet, you need look no further; Mia Mia offers classic style, beautiful lines and a fascinating history that really sets her apart.
