|Guenevere was originally constructed on a Joanne design by the renowned Boston designer L. R. Hereschoff. She was built at Maylands with extra thick hull and ribs and was prepared for an Antarctic journey. This journey never eventuated. She was sailed by the crew of the Kookaburra during the Americas Cup defence. A deep cockpit and wheel steering were added five years ago as well as a below deck fitout of Queensland beech and jarrah.
Despite her narrow beam she is not tender and with all sails up in twenty knots on a beam reach will travel at 8-10 knots. She sails close to the wind and despite there not being a winch on board tacks smartly with three up.
The preparation of the steel hull was remarkable in that 40 years on there is no rust at all apart from light bimetallic stain. She requires minimal upkeep. This is a safe distance cruiser as well as a remarkably easy boat to sail short handed and manoeuvre, a very simple rig with low maintenance composite fibre masts.
