The 'Seabed Investigator' is a plate aluminium barge that was built in 2010 to a high standard by Sirius shipwrights.
Modular design that can be transported on two semi-trailers to site and configured using a small mobile crane
11.3m maximum length bow to stern by 6.55m wide when fully configured
2.75 tnne rated capacity derrick over moonpool
3 tnne variable torque capstan (confirmed working in July 2022 but current oil leak needing minor repair).
Hatz hydraulic power pack with oil tank designed to be integral with frame. This can be lifted out as an integrated package to be used independently. Power pack was last started in in July 2022.
expansive below deck storage
fuel (with breather) and water tanks built in
capacity to retrieve forward main anchors via capstan winch
This barge is classified as a 'dumb' barge and has been manoeuvred via a tender vessel 'saddled-up' to the stern (ie. Has a specially designed push-shield for this). However, it has been used with a 90hp Honda outboard (outboard not included) in Papua New Guinea waters. The barge is constructed of high- grade marine aluminium (materials sheets available). The design of the vessel lends itself to a number of easy modifications, for example: 1. The stern could be 'checked out' and the derrick reversed to allow for light piling/jetty construction activities, 2. A internal construction of the vessel would lend itself to being adapted to being a powered unit with a control console, 3. It could easily be adapted to an accommodation base by having the derrick and powerpack removed.
The vessel has current AMSA survey as 2D, 2E Class for use in NSW waters (ie. No requirement for survey in many states, but this could be easily expanded to Australia general).
Current location Brisbane.
