Remarks
Original Halvorsen Build Comments-We designed the Halvorsen ' Island Gypsy 44 Cruiser for the yachtsman who wants a good looking Sports boat, but who doesn't want to go big game fishing. There are many who don't like or need the aft cabin type of boat because they want to be close to the water at the stern for swimming, socializing fishing or just watching the sun set. . The interior is hand crafted in Golden Burmese teak by first class tradesmen, and around 12000 man hours are consumed in her construction. The well designed "U" shaped galley is safe to work in, functional and part of the furniture when not in use. The cook can be part of the party and see what's going on inside and outside the boat. The living area in this boat is so big, that it could probably be better described as a "Motor Yacht". The aft lounge deck is on the same level as the saloon and consequently, with the double sliding aluminium framed doors opening out to around 4', a sense of spaciousness pervades throughout. The hard top over the rear lounge deck provides year round protection as clear screens can be fitted to keep out the elements. The rear transom door provides for easy boarding off the over-sized teak swim platform. The flybridge is bigger than many 50 footers' and the sensible placement of the helm aft provides excellent vision at all speeds, a more comfortable ride in a seaway, and the advantage of being able to converse with other guests seated around the very large "L" shaped lounge. A feature so simple yet so functional you'll wonder how you lived without it, is the hinged stairway to the fore deck from the centre fore section of the flybridge. Light enough to be handled by one person from the flybridge, the steps hinge down to the fore deck and, in the process, incorporate a safety hand rail. Now you and your guests can safely move between the flybridge and the fore deck for anchoring and docking and, as this area is now not isolated from the rest of the boat as it is in conventional craft, the fore deck area becomes usable and liveable. Soak up the sun or enjoy the ride, or see it used by guests at that dockside cocktail party. Now you have two separate ways to the flybridge, a feature normally reserved for Motor Yachts above 50'.
