Sea Predator 8.0m aluminium fishing/game-fishing plate boat

Built to commercial survey standards 13 years ago, AfrayedKnot is registered for a full 12 months from today. She is an aluminium plate boat built locally in Gerringong; bottom plates are 6mm, side plates are 5mm and the decks are 4mm, according to the builder.

AfrayedKnot was surveyed in May this year, and valued at $76,000; this estimate was accepted by the insurance company. The original builder, Rod Brown (Phoenix Boats, Nowra) told me her replacement value with the original 150hp E-TECs fitted is $175,000. She has since been re-powered with more expensive twin E-TEC 200 HO (225hp) engines (3.4 litre V6s) and Viper 19" stainless props.

She has gone off-shore (up to 50 nm) for game fish many times. She handles big seas well. She is fitted with a Reelax game fishing chair, three Reelax trolling rods, Reelax live bait tubes, many rocket launchers, an ice box, and a huge amount of storage. The bow has lockers and space for two berths.

She carries 500 litres of premium unleaded in two tanks, and runs Evinrude XD 100 synthetic oil in two tanks. The engine's fuel, oil, and electrical systems are completely separate; real, practical safety backup. AfrayedKnot planes easily on one engine.

She has hydraulic steering and a SIMRAD autopilot. She has dual depth sounders and large Raymarine E-120 chart plotter.

All wiring is accessible. Two new marine heavy duty batteries were fitted in February this year.

A complete computer dump of the engine management modules has been obtained; it is a full history from the time both engines were first started. Today the engines have just over 400 hours on them.

I have spent over $6,000 a month ago having full services on both the engines and the gearboxes (one main shaft replaced); Noel Hill (Dave Hill Marine) did the work, and all work is itemised. This is the third full service the engines and gearboxes have had (the former owner used her lightly in the ten years he owned her, so the services were done by time, not hours).

AfrayedKnot requires no bilges and this is noted both in the survey and on the current insurance policy (General Marine). You can see images of her construction: the deck is sealed to the hull, after being filled with hand-taped foam blocks for passive flotation. There is a large scupper valve at the stern of the boat; any water on the deck drains out the scupper. The fuel tank boxes are sealed off and are separate from the rest of the hull.

In preparation for sale, the fuel tank hatches were pulled off, one sender replaced and calibrated (both fuel gauges work), hoses and connections inspected and photographed, and the hatches were resealed with marine-grade Sikaflex.

The anchor has been serviced and tested; the marine toilet in the forward cabin has had all seals and valves renewed; it works properly; the windscreen wipers are new, and the wiper engines have been serviced and tested; the horn is new; and the rear LED deck lights are new.

AfrayedKnot is ready to go fishing! She has 200 litres of premium unleaded in both tanks and the 20 litre oil tanks are about half full.

The receipt for the recent engines/gearboxes/legs service and the engine histories are available to a serious buyer.
