EXCEPTIONAL IS THE ONLY WORD TO DESCRIBE THIS TRULY MAGNIFICENT 52 FT OFFSHORE SAILING CATAMARAN
The incredible journey of this remarkable vessel commenced with the design brief from the owners (one with a PHD in Computer Science and Engineering) being given to renowned yacht designer Carl Schumacher who quickly identified the brief was best executed as a catamaran, not mono-hull.
The initial conceptual plan was managed by Schumacher and then handed to naval architects Morelli and Melvin. The interior design was done in consultation with US Hughes Group Architects.
An exhaustive process was undertaken to select the builder, renowned shipwright Allan Legge in New Zealand was appointed to undertake the build process.
The owners had moved to NZ and had constant input visiting the builder's yard daily to assist and oversee the construction, ensuring their need for attention to detail was maintained at all times.
This has culminated in an EXCEPTIONAL vessel, at 52ft LOA, 28ft BEAM it provides excellent accommodation with owners private cabin and full bathroom on the starboard side, guests queen size berth plus two singles on the port side, again with own full bathroom, and the magnificent saloon area offering 360 degree vision, incorporating galley, navigation area with fully functional helm station including internal steering and engine controls, and superb seating around the birds eye maple table.
The cockpit feeds seamlessly into the saloon and offers similar comforts with great L shaped seating, own helm station plus very efficiently laid out sheets, halyard systems all coming back to the electric cockpit winches for real ease of handling.
Other key features are, extensive storage through out, dedicated workshop area, washing machine and dryer, excellent refrigeration and freezer plus ice maker, convection microwave, custom drawers for crockery and glassware plus more.
Again the attention to detail is evident at deck level and operationally, with numerous watertight hatches for all storage uses, large gear and sail lockers in each bow, separate "machinery" room with genset, separate room for all the water plumbing systems, deck washes etc.
The deck space is also designed to provide excellent full access all around the boat.
The boat is constructed of vacuum-bagged epoxy impregnated E-Glass sandwich, with carbon fibre added to reinforce high stress areas and designed to be virtually unsinkable, with two watertight bulkheads in each bow, plus bulkheads separating the engine rooms aft from the living areas.
The tender is also unsinkable, built in Kevlar and negates the need for a liferaft.
The "crew comfort index" was a primary requirement to ensure crew fatigue was minimised on long passages, to the extent life aboard is more akin to a 5 star hotel, not like most cruising boats.
Performance naturally was a critical part of the design brief with 200 plus nautical mile days regularly maintained when required.
Over a period of 18 years, the owners enjoyed wonderful cruising, travelling more than 30000 nautical miles in the Pacific.
A major refit was undertaken in 2016, including renewing many systems, redesigning the aft cabin bulkhead windows, repainting the decks, cockpit, dinghy and yacht's hull, and much more.
As one would expect, the inventory is immense, please refer to the information as listed where this is detailed comprehensively.
Inspection is strongly recommended and is the only way to really appreciate everything this amazing "cat" offers.
