I have for sale this 36 ft Wharram Tangaroa Mk IV built in Marine plywood and sheathed in fibreglass using West Systems Epoxy. She is a very strong and safe vessel. Recently refitted over an 18 month period and many thousands of dollars spent on her, she is ready to offer her new owners all the joys that a polynesian style catamaran can offer. She is built for adventure!
Design features include:
-Deep v shaped hulls cut through waves.
-Thick mini keels (heavily glassed) incase of impact and act as support during beaching.
- 900mm draft means you can get into the shallow areas.
-Rudders are skeg hung (protected).
-4 very large main structural beams are made of laminated oregon pine are very strong and light weight.
- 2 small oregon pine beams (fwd and aft).
- catwalk at front supports trampolines made of heavy duty netting.
***- Most structural joints are connected using lashings of dyneema sheathed in polyester, this method is based on the ancient designs of the polynesian voyaging canoes and why wharrams are often referred to as the 4x4s of the sea. Because the joints are not rigid, the flex allows the boat to absorb impacts without causing cracking or other impact damage. I have also used rubber wherever one piece of wood touches another. Furthermore dyneema used in multiple loop lashings is many times stronger than metal fasteners.
-Decking is spotted gum, aft deck has a built in boarding ramp that can be lowered to be used as swimming ramp.
- Metal fasteners have been avoided wherever possible and techniques using thinckened west systems epoxy have been favored to eliminate water ingress.
- Wherever fasteners have been used they are 316 stainless steel.
- Mast is beautiful oregon pine varnished.
- Wherever hardware has been mounted through deck, care has been taken to see that the wood has been sealed properly.
- Main sail is a boomless tiki wingsail gaff: being boomless it has to be the safest mainsail setup there is. The gaff raises the mainsail effortlessly using a throat and peak halyard.
- Hank on head sail.
- Dyneema stays as rigging.
- Bow roller is on main fwd structural beam instead of over bow which minimises fwd damage. Bridle system goes from chain to deck cleats through fairleads.
- 40m Galvinised chain
- Main anchor is 16kg Manson Supreme (does amazingly), secondary is good size cqr.
- Lofrans royal windlass.
- Engine is 30hp yamaha 2stroke in great condition. This engine is oversized and at high revs will just about cause the catamaran to plane, however you won't ever have problems going against current especially when you want to get over a bar quickly on an outgoing tide. Engine can be lifted as it sits on heavily built swinging transom to avoid drag under sail and helps keep maintenace to a minimum. Revs can be controlled by remote throttle controller but still has tiller arm control as backup.
-Port hull contains fwd locker, galley with sink, single birth, pantry/storage space, aft locker.
-Stbd hull contains fwd locker, single birth, possible double birth, storage/wardrobe space, aft locker (currently set up with composting head).
Electronics:
-Two systems, one in each hull for redundancy.
-110 amp hr baintech agm in stbd hull, 100 amp hr lithium lifepo4 inside chaos batterybox in porthull. Each battery is conncected to it's own 160watt flexible solar panels via mppt charge controllers.
-Garmin depth/fishfinder with transducer.
-led lights in each hull.
-Uniden handheld vhf.

Gas hotwater/shower.
Gas two burner stove/grill
