NOW SOLD! This Brett Bakewell White designed Z-39 is one of two sisterships built of a carbon and epoxy laminate to exacting standards by Hakes Marine in Wellington NZ in 2004. She has since enjoyed a successful racing history with 5 Sydney to Hobarts, Hamilton Island Race Week, a two-handed Melbourne to Vanuatu in 2014 and an overall Line Honours and IRC win in the 2009 Melbourne to Hobart West Coaster.

This Z-39 has been meticulously upgraded and optimised for serious blue water or inshore regatta racing at the highest level. Her upgrades include a new, deeper but lighter keel, a new carbon rudder, an optimised deck layout with twin wheel steering, new carbon bowsprit, custom sail control systems with constrictor rope clutches making her much easier to sail at optimum speed whether fully crewed or short-handed. Her Southern Spars carbon mast has PBO rigging and recent upgrades allow a square top mainsail and more sail area upwind and down. The functional interior has been refined in layout and upgraded with a much lighter internal structure. Overall, she is considerably lighter, faster and easier to sail and can be easily re-moded for inshore regattas or blue water offshore events, either fully crewed or short-handed. Scope for further IRC optimisation too!

Her sail wardrobe is complete, current and competitive with many near new sails as well as delivery sails. The performance electronics have also been upgraded and include a Brookes and Gatehouse H 5000 integrated system with full Speed, Log, Depth and Wind functions together with GPS Navigation functions displayed on 2 x B & G deck screens, 4 x Garmin 20/20 displays mounted on the mast and a B & G Vulcan V7 multi-function display screen and plotter at the helm. The lap top at the nav station has Boat Polars and Predict Wind to keep you on the pace. The powerful B & G Autopilot makes light work of short-handed sailing and deliveries.

This race optimised Z-39 has been professionally maintained and upgraded and is superbly presented. She offers a step-aboard, turn-key opportunity for a keen competitor or partnership to race at the sharp end of the sport at far less than the costs associated with a custom new build to this quality. This Z-39 is an ideal yacht to compete in the 2019 75th Sydney to Hobart.
