INTRODUCTION:
Due South is a stunning example of the proven Oceanis 50 design, and is one of the last produced in this generation (2005 - 2009). Built by the Beneteau company and launched in 2009 this yacht is ideal for offshore long distance cruising and provides luxury and comfort combined with outstanding performance.

Obviously loved and well maintained by her owners this Beneteau Oceanis 50 sails beautifully, is solidly and thoughtfully built and finished to high standard.

It boasts an elegant exterior and sleek lines with large windows. The long and spacious cockpit is tastefully finished in teak. The cockpit features twin helms, with the pivoting navigation console on the table and instruments either side. The folding table is between two large bench seats so sugar scoops turn can be accessed from the aft bench seat, and a hinged ladder allows water access.

Inside the welcoming ambiance features rich warm woodwork and elegant design. An L-shaped gallery is located on the port side. With its two-metre headroom the very large and spacious salon is ideal for large gatherings. There is a great deal of stowage space available.

This Oceanis 50 is a 3 cabin, owners version with two bathrooms.

A WORD FROM THE OWNERS:

"We flew from New Zealand to Europe in 2018 with our four boys and a few bags - looking for adventure and to escape the busyness of the rat race, wanting quality time together as we made memories that would inspire our boys to make the most of life.

We looked at many boats before deciding on the Beneteau Oceanis 50. There were so many things about it that were on our list: the L-shaped galley, a spacious cockpit and modern interior, 3 cabins - two head layout, lots of storage, big sail locker and simple, easy to maintain systems.

We narrowed our search and visited many boatyards across Europe before finding Due South. She was in pristine condition, being only lightly used and under the care of a professional skipper. She was perfect: slab reefing for performance, low engine hours for peace of mind, and white hull and teak-free decks for ease of care.

We purchased her mid 2018 and immediately began the process of upgrading for blue water - new sails & ropes, new rigging, upgrading the tender, adding solar and wind generator, spinnaker pole & lines, AIS & more electronics, new batteries and improved anchoring setup amongst other things.

And so Due South has been our home for the past 3 1/2 years as we set out to explore the world together. She's taken us from the eastern shores of Turkey through all of the cuisine and culture of the Mediterranean and down the coast of Africa with her remote islands.

We rocketed across the Atlantic Ocean with her strong winds and surfing down big seas, and explored the Caribbean chain from the exotic Grenadines in the South, to the beautiful Virgin Islands in the north. We will never forget the earthy smell as we approached Panama, with her deep rainforest and the legendary canal, finally giving way to the vast Pacific Ocean. The final challenge was a 29 day passage across to French Polynesia, where paradise awaited us. Remote atolls, stunning diving, perfect kiting conditions, warm people and glorious weather every day.

In short, an amazing family adventure only made possible by our relationship with this fantastic yacht.

Finally as we prepared Due South for another year in paradise, we were shocked to learn that we have a new challenge set before us, which is best tackled with the support of friends and family back in NZ. And so we offer her to you, as well as any support you need as you transition on board and make her your own. We trust that you will enjoy owning her as much as we have. Engine
Due South is powered by the tried-and-true Yanmar 4JH4-HTE 110 horsepower diesel, with only 1556 hours on the clock. (The low hours are primarily due to the first owner's situation; they only did 415 hours in the first 10 years). The 4JH4 is extremely common and in our experience very easy to find parts & service agents for worldwide. It should last many thousands of hours, since this is easily-pushed hull that won't tax the engine. The power is transmitted through a fixed shaft to the three-bladed fixed prop. We average just less than 3 litre per hour and can easily motor at 7-8 knots. Engine access is very reasonable on all sides with removable panels in the galley, both aft cabins, as well as the main access via the companionway stairs which lifts on gas struts. The engine space is well ventilated and sound proofed. The engine seacock is located at the front of the engine and has an easily accessed strainer towards the rear port-side. The engine has been serviced at all recommended intervals with the user manuals on board. The full workshop manual PDF is available on request. The most recent service included impeller, oil change, oil filter and fuel filter change (May 2021). Other notable service items were: -1000 hour engine service by Yanmar - including valve adjustments (9/2018). -Water pump was rebuilt by Yanmar (9/2018). -Stern gland and cutlass bearing replaced (4/2019) -Engine exhaust mixing elbow replaced (8/2019) -Alternator serviced, bearings replaced (6/2021) -Spare 80A alternator (8/ 2020) on board. -Sterling Pro regulator added to improve alternator output and control (10/2019) -Yanmar tachometer serviced (2019) LCD screen replaced (2020) -Diesel tank was cleaned and scrubbed in 2020. We always use Fuelset additive and will leave some on board (no issue, just precautionary). -Autopilot rudder bracket was replaced with new heavy-duty Beneteau bracket (9/2020)

Electrics
Due South is relatively simple electronically speaking, but there is still a raft of devices and systems installed to make life safer and easier.
The Navigational electronics on board are by Raymarine, and have been upgraded as detailed below. The VDO switchboard is at the chart table and controls the 240V and 12V supply to the various systems, as well as monitors the state of all batteries, fuel & water tanks. Behind the panel above this is the rest of the circuit breakers and fuses.
The batteries are all relatively new, and meticulously monitored and cared for. We rarely deplete the house bank below 90%, and never lower than 85% SOC. All manuals are on board in hard copy, with numerous electronic information available on request.
The solar panels function well, being on three separate wiring circuits and controllers, which limits any shading effects that typically hamper solar installations. The controllers have capacity for more panels if needed.
The wind generator is the top of the line, Superwind 350. It's very quiet, and is usually not able to be heard functioning on board Due South.
This section would be incomplete without a word about the Vesper Watchmate, which would be one of favourite additions to the boat. While doing everything a good AIS should, transmit, receive and integrating with the other electronics on board, it has some brilliant features which have given us countless peaceful nights. Highly customisable, the anchor alarm works flawlessly, alerting you of anchor dragging, wind shifts, etc and being wired into the boats power supply (drawing only 300mA), gives total peace of mind every night at anchor. It is also wired into the Seatalk network, and can both display and repeat all the Raymarine instrument data - meaning you can connect any device or laptop and wirelessly receive your instrument & navigation data, GPS position, etc. This makes the use of OpenCPN possible, with all the benefits of real-time navigation with Satellite imagery.

Mastervolt 2500W Invertor/charger/240V mains combination unit, with touch screen interface at chart table

SuperWind wind generator - New August 2018
Solar - 2x 140W Sunpower Flexi panels, EPEVER 40A MPPT controller, external display/control & wiring (8/2018), 1x 180W Rigid panels (10/2019), extra wiring, 2x Victron blue tooth 20A MPPT

Sail Inventory
OneSails fully battened 52sqm Mainsail (7/2018), with single line reefing, low friction rings and offshore finishing (more durable). Spare Rutgerson batten cars on board.
Incidence Cruising Genoa 64sqm. We had the original genoa professionally cleaned, restitched where necessary and a new UV strip in 2018. We have used this sail a lot, and really like it. It is due for the UV strip to be replaced again soon, or you could just change to the new OneSails Genoa.
OneSails Perfomance Tri-radial cut Genoa of 62sqm. We have only put this genoa on the furler twice and only used this sail for a short time in the Caribbean, so it is like new. A really nice sail with a matching grey UV strip.
30sqm Stay Sail on hanks, with reefing to further reduce it to 20sqm for storm conditions. The sail has been cut high to allow good visibility and to ensure it clears the dinghy when stored on deck.

Other points to note:
Halyards and sheets (7/2018)
Second Genoa halyard added 2018.
New sail bag and lazy-jacklines, pulleys (7/2018)
Spinnaker pole & halyard (6/2019)
Removable Inner Forestay (4/2019)
Extra genoa cars and blocks either side to facilitate stay sail & genoa sheets (2019)
Dyneema boom preventer setup with low friction rings (2019).
Mast / Rigging
The Mast, boom is by Sparcraft, as is the spinnaker pole, which is stored vertically on a track on the mast. The spring vang both supports the boom and holds it down. The boom gooseneck was serviced with new bushes 10/2019. The new sails & sailbag are by OneSails.
It was important to us to have a rig that we could rely on, and so in April 2019 we had the mast removed and all standing rigging replaced, using Petersen Hi-Mod closed body fittings. Compact strand (Dyform) wire was used on main side stays.
At the foot of the mast are turning blocks to lead the halyards and lines aft under the deck, which cleans the house, reduces tripping and makes it possible to single-hand when necessary. The Lewmar mainsheet track is forward of the sprayhood, making the cockpit both safe and spacious.
The furler is a Facnor LS290, with twin tracks, meaning you can run a double headsail setup if you choose. It has been reliable and faultless to date. We have replaced the Genoa Furler line in 2019, making it much longer and adding two soft shackle blocks to facilitate easy reefing on either port or starboard winch. The original length furler line (new 2018) is in spares.
