Aphrodite is a 50 ft, fibreglass ketch, one of 14 Ocean 50's built by Cheoy Lee between 1968 and 1972. There are at least 10 known to be still sailing which attests to their robust build and sea kindly manners. Aphrodite was built with two watertight bulkheads and a collision bulkhead, which happily have not been put to the test. It was owned for 15 years by an Australian surgeon who lavished much care and maintenance on the craft before passing to me. All I have done is renew the electronics, lazy jacks and sail boom bags, install ducted heating and spend many hours sanding and re-varnishing the woodwork with the expensive but excellent awl grip awl wood product. The basic structure of the yacht is very robust and in good condition with no apparent faults. The regularly maintained motor is a ford lees 80 HP, well known for their longevity and reliability.

Remarks
Aphrodite is a serious blue water, classic sailing vessel which also motors. It sails very well on all points and easily cruises at seven knots, [true, across ground, not log speed, ] running, reaching or sailing to windward with no need to reef until the wind goes over 30 knots. I have never known it to round up in any conditions. An out of water survey will show no blisters or other signs of hull deterioration and recent upgrading of the interior and electronics leaves a new owner with nothing more to do except pack a spare pair of pants and provisions as all kitchen ware, bedding, soft furnishings, fitted carpets, spares and some tools will remain with the yacht.
