Legenday Hans Cristian/Union 36 "Calypso" for sale. We have gone slightly mad and decided to build our next boat from scratch. This means Calypso is now seriously for sale. This is the same Calypso that is featured in the Ben Fogle documentary 'New Lives in the Wild' and 'Where the Wild Men Are' and is the subject of No1 bestelling sailing book 'Get Real, Get Gone:how to become a modern sea gypsy and sail away forever'

Actively sailed and cruised, Calypso has been constantly upgraded and kept in 'ready to go' condition for the last six years. We are still sailing her in the South Pacific and the price includes as much training as the new owner needs. She has just been hauledout and antifouled, re-powered with a new BETA Diesel, new transmission, coupling, shaft, anodes and more new gear than we can mention (including new stack pack installed this week which makes single handed reefing a breeze!)

The Hans Christian/Union 36 is probably the saltiest cruising boat around. Tough as a tank, but with good sailing performance, she oozes confidence and long sea legs. To my eye (and to many others) she is certainly the best looking of cruising boats. Only once have we seen nicer lines in a sailboat. The name change is a complicated story which you can read here if you care (http://rebelheart. Squarespace. Com/history-of-hc-36s/), but basically it was due to Hans Christian trying not to pay legendary designer Bob Perry for the design, but she is 100% Hans.

Calypso is set up to live off grid. We have made an art form of simplicity and the result is a boat that you can enjoy rather than constantly repair. For this reason Calypso was featured in a one hour documentary (see Ben Fogle: Where the Wild Men Are. But please note we have put in a new engine since then.

She has all systems in place to be self - reliant for extended periods. We have addressed the few issues that can ruin any Hans Christian - replaced the steel fuel tanks with polyethelyne, replaced the engine and the transmission, replaced the mast step, had new chain plates made and best of all NO TEAK DECKS! The teak decks on Hans Christians can end up costing over 20k to put right. No worries for Calypso. She is a study in simplicity and ready to go. We have made someting of a career out of helping people with litte experience adapt to the cruising life, so if you have always wanted to give it a try, but need more experience, this is your chance. I suggest you get a copy of the book or watch the documentary to be sure what we are offering is what you want.
