Windsong is a well equiped, comfortable and easily handled sloop rigged cruising yacht. She is also a fast passage maker and a competitive club racer.
Windsong has crossed the Pacific Ocean from the USA to Australia. She has also cruised extensively in the waters of Eastern and Northern Australia, and the Coral Sea. Her home ports have included San Diego, Sydney, Darwin, Port Moresby, Port Hinchinbrook and Cairns.
Windsong is a very capable yacht and does it all with the efficiency and style that the Hunter 40 Legend is renowned for.

Accommodation
A double berth is located aft with ensuite/head, wardrobes, cupboards and a dressing table. Forward there is a "V" berth cabin with own ensuite/ head and cupboards.
The spacious, airy central saloon has excellent headroom (192cm), setees on both sides and a dining table with drop down leaves (seat 6). The settees can be used as berths.
A chart table with electrical panel, radios and instrumentation is located on the port side at the foot of the companion way. The galley is located on the starboard side. There is attractive polished timber flooring throughout the boat.
There is a boarding/swimming platform with drop down ladder built onto the stern transom which is ideal when cruising / or at anchor with friends.
Cabins
The aft cabin has an island double berth, wardrobes, dressing table with mirror and cupboards. There is a storage space for tools and spares under the double berth. The battery compartment is also located in this space.
The saloon is open, airy, spacious and has excellent headroom. It has two settees with storage compartments beneath, cupboards on boat sides, book shelves and a dining table. Adjoining the saloon on the starboard side is the "L shaped galley with stove, fridge and sinks. The chart table is situated on the port side adjoining the saloon. The forward cabin is a "V" berth arrangement and has its own ensuite shower / head.

Galley
The galley has a double sink, chest fridge (12v) and a three burner gas stove with griller and oven. A mixer tap supplies hot and cold fresh water to the sinks via a 12V pressure pump. A foot pump also provides sea water to the sink. There are conveniently positioned shelves and cupboards for the storage supplies and galley items.

Electrics
240 Volt AC power outlets are located in the galley (shore supply only). There are also 110 Volt AC power outlets throughout the boat (via an in-built power transformer). Lighting is 12 volt.
Two x 150 amph maintenance free deep cycle batteries are configured as House batteries. Two x 70 amph maintenance free cranking batteries are used for engine starting. A fifth maintenance free battery is located in the bow and supplies power to the anchor windlass.
2 x 80 Watt solar panels are located on the roof of the bimini and charge the batteries during daylight hours via a solar regulator.
A Balmar alternator is fitted to the main engine and provides battery charging when the engine is running.
Two switches are located at the battery compartment and enable the House batteries (Pack 1 & 2) to be switched in individually or jointly, and for the Engine batteries to be switched in or out as required.

2 x Lowrance GPS/Chart plotters (one located at the helm and one at the chart table) plus 1 x GME backup GPS is located at the chart table.

Sail Inventory
1 x Halsey Lidguard Dacron Mainsail with 3 x reefing points, 1 x Hood Dacron Masthead Furling Genoa (130%), 1 x Halsey Lidguard Dacron Masthead Furling Headsail (110%), 1 x Halsey Lidguard Dacron Masthead Headsail (90%) and 1 x Hood Masthead MPS Spinnaker in a sock.
Mast / Rigging
Windsong is a masthead sloop with a Facnor roller furler on the forestay. The deck stepped aluminium mast is 54 feet high, the boom is also aluminium and has 3 x internal reefing lines and an outhaul slide. An aluminium spinnaker pole is carried on deck when not in use.
The mast has Lower, Middle and Upper shrouds attached to deck plates. The backstay divides into two for attachment to the transom. The HF radio antenna is integrated into the back stay.
The boom vang is a two blocks / rope arrangement. The gybe preventer is also a two blocks / rope arrangement.
The boom is fitted with lazy jacks and an integrated sail bag for easy reefing and sail handling.
The running rigging includes 2 x Headsail sheets, 2 x Spinnaker sheets, 1 x Main sheet, 1 x Main Traveller sheet, 1 x Main halyard, 1 x Boom Topping lift (also a spare main halyard), 2 x Headsail halyards, 1 x Spinnaker halyard, 3 x Reefing Lines, 1 x Cunningham, 1 x Vang and 1 x Pole downhaul.
Deck Gear
A large single stainless steel steering wheel is located aft in the cockpit. The main traveller and main sheet blocks are located forward in the cockpit in front of the companion way. 4 x self tailing manual Barlow winches are located around the cockpit for sheets, halyards and reefing lines. A fifth self tailing winch is located on the mast for the forward halyards and topping lift.
6 x Easy Lock rope jammers (2 x 3) are located on the coachhouse to secure halyards and lines. Deck organisers and blocks are mounted near the mast.
Remarks
Windsong is an attractive, comfortable and well equipped cruising yacht. She sails well, is easily handled and is a delight to helm whether it be day sailing, cruising or racing. She is also manouvreable in marinas due to her large rudder.
