Dreamcatcher... The very name conjures up images of being anchored at a remote tropical island, sipping Pina Coladas as the warm afternoon sun sets slowly to the West.

From the drawing board of renowned naval architect John Pugh, Dreamcatcher is a Sunbird 66. She was designed and custom built in rugged steel to circumnavigate the globe and venture into the latitudes that many sailors fear to go. With her striking blue topsides and impressive lines, Dreamcatcher has a formidable presence both out on the water and sitting alongside the dock.

Dreamcatcher was built by Brian Brady in Dampier and was splashed in 2002. The construction from start to finish was overseen by a professional surveyor and the build quality is very impressive. The current owner purchased her in late 2002 and since then she has been very lightly used and mostly utilised as a live aboard.

With a long waterline and a good turn of speed under sail, the Sunbird 66 is a seriously capable and fast passagemaker. And with accommodation for ten crew, she would be right at home as an expedition yacht, or with some additional expenditure and work could be put into survey and used as a charter yacht to produce some income. Or just simply utilised as a very spacious and comfortable liveaboard cruising yacht. With Dreamcatcher, the only limitations are your imagination.

Below the water line the Sunbird 66 has a powerful hull form and with a long fin keel she tracks very well to windward. The skeg hung rudder is an extremely robust design that provides an extra degree of protection from any debris encountered in the water. The bow thruster ensures that she is manoeuvrable in close quarters. All of these design attributes are highly desirable in a rugged cruising yacht and considered by many designers and sailors to offer the perfect balance between performance and durability.
One of the standout features of the design is the all-weather pilot house. This offers complete protection from the weather on all sides and is a great place to keep watch while underway, or simply enjoy the panoramic views while sitting at anchor. The two large windows in the roof bath the pilot house in an abundance of natural light and also provide good vision of the mainsail.

Moving down below from the pilot house is the main saloon. As you would expect on a boat of this size it is extremely spacious. To port is a very large and plush L-shaped couch. The saloon also features a very practical and useful office desk on the port side. To starboard there is large dining table with ample seating to accommodate a large crew of hungry sailors.
The galley is a simple and practical design that features twin stainless-steel sinks, a ceramic cooktop with a rangehood and a microwave oven. Refrigeration is well catered for with a free-standing full height domestic fridge and freezer.

Dreamcatcher is powered by a large six cylinder, 300HP Scania DS11 diesel engine. The engine was completely rebuilt prior to the original installation and has only done an estimated 300 hours. The walk-in engine room is huge. It is spacious enough to also house the Yanmar 22KW genset and a number of the other onboard systems. With great access to the engine and genset from all sides, maintenance couldn't be any easier.

Accommodation is very well catered for. The master cabin is aft and features a comfortable double bed and ample storage with hanging wardrobes and a free-standing chest of drawers. There are two bunks directly forward of the master cabin that are currently utilized as additional storage. There are two large cabins forward. The one closest to the bow features two single bunk beds on the port side and a large double bed on the starboard side. The cabin just aft of this, features a large double bed to starboard and the bathroom and washing machine are on the port side of this cabin.

On deck the layout is very clean and simple. All lines and sheets run back to the two large winches on the aft deck. The winch on the starboard side is electric and is setup to handle the main halyard. And when necessary, both of the jib sheets can also be operated by the electric winch. On the transom is a large boarding/swim platform that folds down. There is also a pair of steel davits large enough to carry a considerable sized tender. These bolt on and are currently in storage. The decks are very spacious and easy to move around and the deep bulwarks and solid stainless steel lifelines provide an added measure of safety.

No matter how ambitious your cruising dreams may be, Dreamcatcher is more than capable of fulfilling those dreams and taking you there in comfort and safety. At the current asking price she represents exceptional value for money and will not be on the market long. So don't hesitate, give Chris a call today on to arrange an immediate inspection.
