"stringers and frames are closely spaced providing exceptional strength, with quality welding throughout"

"Her displacement coupled with her deep fin (lead) keel provides exceptional stability"

"The standing rigging remains in excellent condition with the running backstays replaced with new dyneema and frictionless rings. In addition, a Ronstan series 26 main batten car system and blocks has been added with the main sheet on stainless arch allowing seamless safe access between cockpits"

Recently returned from Hobart (January 2022) and ready to go adventuring again with new owners. Last haul out was November 2020 for routine anti-foul paint, replacement anodes, new stop cocks (tru-design), new house batteries (600Ahrs) and check stays added to the runners. The life raft has been serviced, additional EPIRB and new inflatable danbouy added and engine and running spares all replenished.

Originally designed for the Admirals Cup Series by renowned Australian designer Peter Joubert who named all his designs after Australian native birds, the Emu 55 was the largest and strongest of his vessels. Steely Dan was launched in 1990. The beautifully rounded tumble home hull and decks are made from 6mm steel throughout with closely spaced stringers for incredible strength forward (see photos). Steely Dan was raced in the Hamilton Islands by the original owners in the 1990s who fitted out the detailed teak interior before moving her to Sydney. Her deep fin keel and strength adds serious stability in heavy seas for confidence and safety in all weather yet she remains efficient and responsive on all points of he wind even in light air.

In 2016 the vessel underwent an extensive refit in New Zealand with the current owners before sailing around the South Pacific Islands, which included a newly designed hard dodger and cockpit layout for safer and more comfortable cruising. A new B&G Navigation package, Open Ocean water maker (240L/h), rewiring, new Victron inverter-charger, Webasto diesel heaters, a new Ronstan batten car system and blocks plus a host of other upgrades adds to the appeal of this vessel being one of the safest and most comfortable family cruisers on the market for anywhere in the world.

'This vessel is in the best condition that we have seen (steel yacht)': Logix consulting Pty Ltd (2015), taken from pre-purchase survey report.

Layout below: eight berths in four cabins: two double and two twins. Separate port and starboard double stern cabins lead forward to the navigation station port-side and galley starboard-side of a large stepped central companionway leading into the spacious main saloon with ample seating for up to 8 people. A central passageway continues forward between a port-side double bunk cabin and starboard-side separate toilet and shower, to the V birth twin cabin in the bows. Copious but accessible storage abounds throughout the vessel; an essential requirement for blue water ocean cruising and long passage-making.
