47ft Laurent Giles Cutter rigged Sloop "Sunrise",
Built by master boat builder and author of Modern Wooden Yacht Construction John Guzwell. "Sunrise" was a craftsmans labour of love over 3 years and still in as good condition today as when first launched in Hawaii 1977.
Purchased 2012 in Hawaii by the current owner for a south pacific cruise back to Australia with his young family.
Yacht was thoroughly surveyed at the time, rerigged, upgraded and equipped for a successful voyage and to be a comfortable family home afloat. Currently presents very well and in excellent condition in all regards "Sunrise" is a delight to the eye, immensely strong, sea kindly and full of character. Ready again for Blue water voyaging

Builders history-John Guzzwell is a well known sailor and boat builder, who gained fame for building and sailing his tiny boat Trekka around the world as a young man. His book 'Trekka around the world' chronicles that story including his time with Miles and Beryl Smeeton aboard their ketch 'Tsu Huang' when the three were pitchpoled in the Southern Ocean and survived in great measure due to Guzzwell's boatbuilding skills (This story and Guzzwell's participation is told in the Smeeton's classic 'Once is enough').
It was on this trip that he visited Hawaii for the first time, and many years later he returned to the request of his friend Ron Libkuman to build
'Sunrise'. Guzzwell had built himself a cold moulded cutter called 'Treasure' in the UK in the sixties, and had sailed it all over the world before settling in New Zealand to continue practising his craft. On one cruise to Alaska, John and Ron Libkuman met and spent some time together. Before parting company, Mr Libkuman asked him if he would build a copy of Treasure for him in Hawaii. John agreed to build him an even better version, a little longer, a thicker hull (an extra layer of wood) and a slightly improved rudder section. The result was 'Sunrise' completely built by hand in three years by one extraordinary man. In a recent communication with Mr Guzzwell, he said that he 'had done some of the best work of his career' on her, due to the owner's wish for 'no expense to be spared'.
