You hear it all the time from the cruising fraternity:
"Gentlemen don't go to windward"
"I am not interested in speed"
"I don't want a racing boat"
"We are not in a hurry"
This is all very well but there will come a time when you will have to go to windward, you may have to outrun a weather system or you might just want to get the best spot at the anchorage.
This is where "Pacemaker", a Ben Lexcen designed fast cruising yacht, comes into its own.
Originally built to race, her owner has optimised her for fast, comfortable, easy to sail, single handed cruising. Sails are trimmed at the helm with the assistance of a powerful 3 speed Barton electric winch and all controls are lead back to the cockpit. Her performance pedigree produces a yacht that is a pleasure to sail, being extremely well balanced and responsive to the helm.
In 2011 Pacemaker underwent a 5-month overhaul by Solidair at the Phuket Boat Lagoon. The hull repainted with Awlgrip, a new pulpit installed, new stern tube & flush skin fittings fitted. To add to the comfort for tropical cruising a marine air-con system was added to the owner's cabin which is run by a Honda EU2000 Generator (not included).
NDT testing of the rod rigging was undertaken, and anything that needed repairing was, including re-glassing the new stern tube and the tip of the rudder. Chain plates were removed, checked and re bedded. New tables were fabricated along with an AC housing, engine cover etc.
The interior was repainted in 2013, and new engine mounts and flexible drive have been recently installed ensuring smooth & quiet motoring.
Just in case you had forgotten, the designer Ben Lexcen" was the designer of "Australia II" the winner of the Americas Cup in 1983. The first non-American winner since its inception 132 years earlier, hence the pedigree is unique.
