Big fast 65ft (20m) cruising boat. The Macgregor65 is a USA production boat with 100 boats being built and located in many countries in the world. Every current and past owners ive spoken with absolutely love their boat as i do also.
Be warned as this boat gets a lot of attention and people constantly wanting to chat about it. It really is that impressive. It really has that WOW factor and ive had many say its there all time favourite boat they have ever seen. Go check out the others then come check this out. No timber maintenance and everything is easy to access, its a very well thought out design.
Macgregors are built well above US Coast Guard Standards and are actually one of the only keel boats in the world to have floatation foam throughout the boat built in so there is more floatation bouyancy than displacement.
Although built to be a fast easy to sail cruising boat they excelled in many fields including racing. One sistership held its ocean race record for over 20 years. The MacGregor65 can achieve fantastic daily averages so more time for relaxing and less time needed to get to your destination.
The Macgregor is designed long and narrow with a low overall weight and by doing so the mast and sail area are of smaller proportions for the boats size. What this formula creates is a fast easily driven hull with a smaller easy to manage sail area but speeds down wind with the spinnaker up can reach 25knots. Cruising speed is usually around 12 knots without pushing it and the boat performs better kept upright with less sail area rather than healed right over. Less heal makes it much more comfortable. It slices through swell like butter and is dry in the cockpit due to its length. Overall maintenance cost are excellent for its size due to more affordable rig/sail/winch sizes and full fibreglass linings etc.
While cruising its a one person job to operate. Full furling mainsail and headsail, if your hoisting the spinnaker a pully system can be easily rigged for one person or couple to deploy. If racing is your desire a larger crew makes life really easy and the comfortable accommodation is a must to avoid crew fatigue.
Interior is long and open plan with 2 permanent double beds and 2 permanent single beds. The couches can sleep 2 more single guests or pipe berths can be added above the 2 single berths as well. All up a crew of 10 could potentially be very comfortably bunked down at one time. In the head is a new toilet and it has a bathtub to shower/bathe in or to hang wet gear.
Recently i have refurbished the interior to put our boat on the market.
New items are:- New refrigeration unit, new stove, new plumbing, new toilet, new cushions/mattress foam and covers, new drop leaf table (almost ready for install). New windows.
Engine is very easy to access and easy for parts as its a vw/audi LT diesel. New Diesel injectors and glow plugs just fitted.
There are a few items still due for replacement like rigging wire but the price refects this and i felt its best for it to be done when new ownership takes place. There is nothing really wrong with the rig but its getting close to its 10 year age limit for insurance purposes. Due to a relatively small mast its actually not that expensive to change the rigging.
Boat is being sold As-Is Where-Is.
I will consider trades, a house or large parcel of waterfront land on Russell, Lamb, Macleay islands etc or property in northern NSW or Sth of Brisbane. Its a beautiful yacht that i know a family would enjoy.
. Safest place to live is on your own yacht.
