This Radford 17.5 metre sloop was designed for owners who wanted a safe, strong, blue water cruising yacht with a centre cockpit, pilot house layout with all the luxuries that make cruising a pleasure. She is a tribute to the craftsmen who designed and built her. Everything about Paroo' can only be described in superlatives, from the construction standard and safety features to the level of passenger comfort.

Built to American Bureau of Shipping A1 Yacht Class and Uniform Shipping Laws Code - Class 1B & 1D standard, in the toughest steel. 'Paroo' has a steel collision bulkhead and four other watertight bulkheads. The hull plating is a combination of 4 & 5mm with floors and frames at spacing from 460 - 750mm depending on the slamming loads. The four integral water tanks, two fuel tanks & sump tank add further to the strength of the hull. 'Paroo' sports a shallow keel with a relatively low centre of gravity and a very strong rudder / skeg arrangement. The deck is structure is a composition of Airex and Divinycell foam cores and 576g double bias E-Glass bonded and bolted to the steel hull. Thisck teak decking has been laid over the top.

The general layout revolves around the raised pilot house and centre cockpit. Starting aft, the owner's cabin has an abundance of lockers and stowage space, the double berth forward on the centreline, has its own head and separate shower to port. Forward of the shower is a large work/storage room with access to the 5KVA generator, spares and tools.

The passage forward of the owner's cabin to the pilot house incorporates another head and basin, plus a washer/dryer. The pilot house has a large dinette with good visibility out the large windows while seated and features an inside steering station, chart table, instruments and electrical control panels. The engine compartment is under the cabin sole where the twin Yanmar 88HP turbo shaft drive diesels are housed, well insulated and easy to access.

The large, u shaped galley has a fridge and freezer, electric stove and double sink with a dinette for four opposite. The dinette area converts into upper and lower berths. Two opening ports in the hull, one in the galley and another above the dinette, give extra light and ventilation.

There are two forward cabins with upper and lower berths. The lower berth in the port cabin expands to a double berth. The centreline partition between the two forward cabins can be removed to form a large forward cabin. Both cabins have access to the forward head. Forward of this head is a sail locker come crew cabin. Further forward is a stepped collision bulkhead and an anchor locker with electric anchor winch.

The double spreader, classic aluminium (Standing rigging renewed in 2012, running rigging 2018) cutter rig has two headsails (overlapping # 1 and staysail), both on electric furlers operated by buttons at the helm. The mainsail has six full length battens and lazy jacks for easier reefing and dropping. There is a spinnaker pole ready to pole out the headsail when needed.

The 2 genoa, 2 halyard and mainsheet winches are powered for ease of use from the safety of the central cockpit. These combined with the hydraulic vang and backstays adjustable from the cockpit ensure you can control this boat on your own from the safety and comfort of the central cockpit. The central cockpit is protected by a fixed screen forward. A very modern, fixed stainless bimini which covers the central cockpit has been added in the past 12 months.

The aft deck features two large princess seats in built into the stainless push pit. There are electric stainless-steel davits for bringing up the hard-bottomed dinghy with outboard and supporting the solar panels which can be adjusted for the best reach to the sun.

Further inventory items include air conditioning, 3 blade feathering propellers, water maker, Raymarine instrumentation with plenty of repeaters inside and out, radar, autopilot, GPS, HF radio, safety gear, spares and so much more.

'Paroo' has cruised the globe and can go again. For a buyer wanting the peace of mind and strength of a steel hull, a centre cockpit layout, raised pilot house protection, a rig and sail set up which allows for single handed sailing from the cockpit, a luxury fit out and all the gear necessary for self-sufficiency, you won't find much better than Paroo for under $400,000 AUD.
