Built in 1947 by the famous boat builder Jack Savage to compete in the Fosrters cup, 'Altair' has been a competitive race yacht amongst the prestigious fleet of Restricted 21's in Australia, with a large number of these boats in Goolwa.
They are a pleasure to sail and are a beautifully balanced on the helm.
They (restricted 21's) can be sailed with 3 to 7 people on board and are a fantastic social boat for competitive twilight racing.
Race results for Altair and other restricted 21's can be found on the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club website.
Further information can be found through the Tassie Too project in Tasmania, and also in the recently published book 'little boats with sails : the history of Australia's 21 foot restricted class.
She sadly is not getting enough use however she is kept in an immaculate condition.
Recently antifouled in 2022 and deck / gunnels painted, 'Altair' is ready to race with an excellent sail inventory.
The berth she is currently in (D10) at the GRYC can be negotiated as a sub lease or purchase.
Please call to discuss anytime.
A special thank you to Chris Caffin from Canvas Sails for many of the photos shown here.
Please look out for canvas sails on Facebook for his photos.
