A rare opportunity to purchase one of the finest cruising trailable yachts ever built, SunBird #9, fully restored and comes complete with a rebuilt road trailer ready to continue great adventures with her new owners. Jamaican Jo has only had 2 owners from new and is a beloved and well cared for yacht but the current owners have now purchased a large keelboat to pursue their dream to liveaboard and set sail around Australia and internationally so it is time for Jamaican Jo to move on to her third owner. There has been many great adventures and travels on Jamaican Jo shared with many friends over the last 5 years.

Often described by the owner as a "Keelboat on a trailer", the SunBird 25 features a solid fixed skeg keel molded into the thick hand laid fiberglass hull providing an outstanding ballast ratio of 35% which makes for a very stable and seaworthy vessel that handles more like a keelboat than a trailable yacht. A retractable swing centerplate adds to upwind performance and excellent tracking.

The spacious cabin rivals many small keelboats featuring 6 foot headroom, dedicated galley, dinette, up to 6 berths and excellent storage. The current owner lived aboard for over a year in 2019-20.

Jamaican Jo was a hidden gem found carefully stored away at the home of the original owner, Les, for over 10 years after many years of sailing with his sons in the Geelong region. Les was 92 at the time the boat was sold to the current owner, Jason, that has embarked on a full restoration and refurbishment. Jamaican Jo was preserved in her original condition and remained a very strong and seaworthy vessel however was in great need of a refurbishment and replacment of her aging rigging and fittings throughout. Much time, effort and money has been invested in bringing Jamaican Jo back to her former glory and she was relaunched in 2017 with further refurbishment continuing into 2018.

The boat on the trailer weighs just under 3,000 kg. The original trailer chassis was been rebuilt in 2016 with new axles, brakes, wheels, tyres and hitch rated to 3,500 kg and fitted with a new AL-KO iQ7 brake system. The trailer and vessel is currently registered in Victoria. The buyer will need to register the vessel and trailer in QLD (or their home state if outside of QLD).

Some of the yacht's history is available, having purchased the yacht from the original owner. Photos are available for many of the refurbishment tasks that were completed from 2016 to 2018 to bring Jamaican Jo back to her former glory and further improvements.

There is still an active association for SunMaid and SunBird yachts and I would encourage the new owner to continue to support the association. The assocation also holds a large archive of club magazines, known as the "SunLog" that are available to association members.

An interesting article from the SunBird 25 heyday. Amongst other things, shows the passage of 5 SunBird 25s that cruised across Bass Straight to Tasmania and returned to Melbourne.
