This CT 41 is the sought after centre cockpit version of this ketch with spacious deck space, lovely lines, 3 separate private cabins, and fore and aft heads. The boat has been maintained to the highest standards inside and out and has extensive upgrades. "Blue Swan" performs unusually well under sail or power and she is an outstanding choice for long distance or coastal cruising, weekend cruising and is set up in every way to serve as a live aboard. The centre cockpit provides comfort, safety, security and great visibility. Her twelve large windows and nine large opening ports provide essentially a bright interior down below and also great visibility from below to outside. Below decks the owner's cabin is aft with a large double bed, two hanging lockers, plenty of storage and a head with a shower and sink area to starboard. Forward is a double berth, chain locker and a second enclosed head with sink and shower, hanging locker and storage. The main salon is well laid out with a complete galley to starboard, plenty of room and storage and a full berth to port and three quarter-berth to starboard. The engine room is aft of the main cabin and forward of the aft cabin under the centre cockpit well. There is direct and easy access to the engine from all sides. A work area/nav station is directly across from the galley and the walkway to the aft cabin provides for storage above and below. The professionally installed electrical panel is on the forward bulkhead of the main salon. "Blue Swan" has been extensively upgraded with new equipment. Her stunning lines and beauty, sailing ease, interior layout, space, comfort and amenities are appealing to all.

Background

I purchased "Blue Swan" in 2010 in San Diego, California, USA. Some of the upgrades listed above were implemented around that time together with a full marine survey, copy of which is available. Between April and July 2010 I sailed the vessel from San Diego to Sydney, NSW, Australia via Honolulu Hawaii, Palmyra Atoll, Apia Samoa, Suva Fiji and made landfall in Australia in Coffs Harbour before sailing south to Sydney.

After clearing out the cobwebs during the first leg to Hawaii I carried out a number of minor repairs to the sails and rigging, autopilot hydraulic pump motor as well as some other minor general maintenance. From Hawaii to Australia "Blue Swan" performed superbly as one would expect from the comfortable heavy displacement cruising vessel she is. Upon arrival in Sydney she was given Australian Ships Registration (O/N 859452, certificate available) and I continued to live on the vessel until early 2014. During that time she underwent general care and maintenance typical of a live on board yacht. This included a new electrical panel, new electric fuel level switches, replacement of mechanical heads with electric heads, TV suited to Australian format, painting of parts of the superstructure and gunwales, antifouling, a new outboard motor, internal carpet (which has subsequently been removed) and the regular use of the solid fuel heater during the winter months. In addition, I regularly sailed her around Pittwater and Broken Bay north of Sydney. During that period "Blue Swan" was valued at AUD$165,000 by a local appraiser for insurance purposes (appraisal is available).

In mid 2013 the original Perkins 4-108 engine was on its last legs with over 4,000 hours of service. I decided to replace the engine and gearbox with a brand new BETA 50 engine, supplied and installed by Beta Australia at a cost of around AUD$25,000. At the same time the propeller was replaced with a new one, supplied by Porters Propellers in Sydney.

In April 2014 my wife and I were offered the opportunity of employment in Singapore with a three year contract. We sailed the vessel to Port Stephens north of Sydney and had her put into dry dock for long term storage and that is where she lays today. Unfortunately, the effects of time and lack of ongoing care and maintenance have taken their toll. Her original teak decks had already been re-sanded and are now worn to the point where the teak has started to lift in some places allowing moisture to penetrate the deck. The timber masts as well as all other external timber surfaces need repainting. The mizzen mast shows signs of dry rot which needs to be addressed. However, her hull is GRP and sound while engine, electronics and additional equipment are all in good order.

A yacht like "Blue Swan" needs to be sailed and deserves to be cared for. Since returning to Australia however, I have come to the conclusion that I no longer can do justice to her needs in view of my ever increasing work commitments. Therefore and albeit very reluctantly, I have decided to put "Blue Swan" up for sale. I envisage that her new owner would be the type of person who has the skills, time and dedication to bring back the old girl to her former glory. Accordingly, prospective buyers will recognise that "Blue Swan" represents a great opportunity to own a beautiful and very capable cruising or coastal yacht for many years to come at a very, very reasonable price.
