'CA VA' was built using the best materials and has competed in three Fastnets, reportedly five Atlantic crossings and sailed from England to Australia in 1981. Hydrovane self steering, autohelm and manageable rig make this boat ideal for the solo yachtie or someone needing to gain experience in a 'proper' cruising boat.
She underwent a 13 year out-of-water restoration completed in 2006 with new engine, PSS shaft seal, new wiring, new electric windlass, new autopilot, some new sails, and interior refit to a very high standard.
Since then I have sailed her extensively on the East Coast and in Tasmanian waters and renewed all rigging, boom, sheet winches, anchor & chain, GPS/MFD, solar panels and batteries plus a new yankee jib and recut main to reduce the area slightly for better balance.
Boat slipped and anti-fouled mid December 2016 - when 50m of new anchor chain and new gypsy to fit installed. New boom with slab reefing system fitted March 2017.
Although compact, the cabin interior is beautifully fitted out with quality wood, a secure seaberth, good hatches and is a very cosy place to be in a blow.
Open to sensible offers. Owner has a severe bout of biggerboatitis. Buyer will have free use of fully mantained mooring in one of Tasmania's most sheltered bays for 12 months if required, and I can keep an eye on boat if new owner is absent.

Engine
Yanmar 2GM-20 was installed new approx 2005 during complete boat restoration and relaunched in 2006. Continuously maintained with regular oil, filter and anode changes. Cooling system regularly flushed with fresh water; impeller and water pump recently replaced/overhauled. Stainless steel exhaust elbow takes care of Yanmar's main weakness, which is a tendency for the original steel elbow to carbon up and corrode. Inspected, cleaned, new gasket and new stainless bolts fitted August 2017. Spare overhauled starter motor, spare impellers, filters and belts.

Electronics / Navigation
Raymarine GPS/MFD new October 2015, depth sounder, Autohelm 2000 Tillerpilot, two steering compasses plus handbearing compass (needs bubble removed). Hydrovane wind pilot with independent auxiliary rudder (= no autopilot power drain on longer sea passages, backup if main rudder is damaged).
Sail Inventory
Two fully battened mains (one excellent, other good), near new yankee, good MPS in sock, several other older headsails in good condition.
Mast / Rigging
New boom with 2 x reefing clutches March 2017 (over $3000 spent), aluminium mast overhauled 2015, forestay and lowers new October 2015, caps and backstay 2012.
Old rigging was removed due unknown age, though appears little-used. All available as spares.
Deck Gear
2 x Lewmar self tailing sheet winches (new 2012) plus 2 (believed to be Gibb/Tufnol) at mast for halliards, boom brake, spinnaker pole, Maxwell 1000 electric anchor windlass for rope & chain. All winches regularly serviced.
Remarks
Built back in the day when they used solid glass, not balsa core. Boat is progressively and continually maintained and sailed year-round by an experienced owner.
Recent survey report available.
If your ability matches your ambition you could take this boat anywhere, or if you are just starting out she would be a great first cruising boat.
