Spacious Ben Lexcen cruising/racing yacht in mint condition. Marine and Rigging Surveys available. Full instrumentation, chart plotter, tiller pilot, re-powered, re-wired owned and maintained by maintenance engineer/owner for the past 17 years. Now sadly need to part with sailing for health reasons. The yacht has been penned at South of Perth Yacht Club for the past 17 years, where I have been a member for over 20 years. Fully maintained and antifouled every season. There is no sign of any osmosis. Equipped for long Rottnest Island breaks and further afield if you are so inclined.
This yacht would suit someone who does not want to take on a refurbishment project. It has all been done. We bought this yacht originally because it had been designed by the famous yacht designer Ben Lexcen and because it combined all the features of a great keel boat for racing as well as for cruising. It handles well in all conditions encountered off the Perth coast and the auto tiller pilot is a great helmsman when required.
A comparison of all yachts advertised at the time of writing of similar age and between 29ft and 31ft shows that the 20% of yachts are advertised above $40,000 and 38% above $35,000. However you can buy this yacht for a lot less. Engine, windlass, winches, fridge, tiller pilot and plotter, tender with motor, bimini and covers alone come to well over $26,000.
Considering the few hours on the engine, the equipment standard and quality of fittings and furnishings, our indicative price is very reasonable. It is a yacht equipped to be enjoyed by the whole family.
The self-furling head sail allows you to change from the equivalent of a number 1 head sail to a number 3 headsail by furling. There is a spare forestay, should you prefer to set individual sails. The main sail can be sheeted from either port or starboard positions. The main sail traveller is located on top of the coach house out of the way from the cockpit and the companionway.
We keep the boat on the Swan river, so going under the bridges is achieved easily with the mast lowering gear, which is powered through the electric anchor winch capstan, so raising and lowering of the mast is achievable by a crew of two only.
The Delta anchor has 20m of 9mm chain, more than adequate for safe anchoring in 30 knot wind in suitable sea bed conditions. The anchor has deck push button controls as well as cockpit remote control.
The yacht powers nicely through wind gusts with no tendency to windward uncontrollable course change. The boat is nicely balanced.
The engine is a Nanni diesel which is sufficient to push the boat along at around 6 knots comfortably.
Accommodation forehead for two in comfort, for another two by converting dining table and for one more on a side single bed. There are plenty of lockers for tools, equipment, swimming gear, clothes, crockery, plates and glasses.
Pressurised water is provided from a 220 litre tank to the sink in the heads and the galley as well as to a shower in the cockpit.
The eutectic fridge operates on 12V or 240V when available and keeping fresh food and drinks cold. Eutectic systems use battery power when available in abundance such as when motoring and uses less when the battery is low. The system stores the enrgy for when it is needed. When at anchor the solar panels plus running the engine for half an hour a day provides all the energy the fridge requires.
There is a two burner methylated spirit stove with a grill and the boat comes with a stainless steel BBQ that mounts on the pushpit rail. Metho stoves are very safe and no risk of gas leaks which can have devastating consequences.
There is a long and extended swimming ladder for ease of getting in and out of the water. The yacht has a bimini which provides shade from the sun. In addition, a full set of cockpit canvas shade covers zipps into place to provide all day shade if so desired.
Engine fully serviced in October 2017. Fuel tank emptied and cleaned. Antifouling applied October 2017. Out of water survey completed October 2017. Professional rigging survey completed February 2018.
