Summary
Built by Goetz (USA) for the US and European TP52 regattas, KOA was one of the best TP52's to hit the circuit. Sistership to, and built alongside 'Quest', KOA is arguably the best TP52 of this age series on the market. Professionally maintained KOA has had no expense spare and no stone left unturned to maximise her racing potential both inshore and offshore. There is not much this 52 footer can't do, with complete Cat 1 offshore inventory, KOA has been further strengthened and waterproofed throughout to compete in some of the toughest offshore races including the Transpac, Middle Sea Race (winning overall), China Sea race and multiple Rolex Sydney Hobart Races. KOA will appeal to those looking to step up into a race ready and competitive TP52 with nothing to spend and will delight the most fastidious buyer. Inspections a must.

History
Koa, originally Sjambok and then Lucky, is an IRC optimised TP52 racing yacht built by Goetz Custom Boats (Rhode Island, USA) in 2004. Built alongside Brightstar (now Quest) and Esmeralda (now One Sails) to compete in both the US and European TP52 circuits.
The design brief requested Farr yacht design to create the best TP52 to compete in a broad mix of venues including both course and distance races. The answer was a highly competitive racing yacht, capable of heavy offshore conditions.

Current
Koa was IRC optimised in 2013 including a new bulb and rudder (designed by Nelson Marek), carbon bow sprit, square top main and associated runner configuration to Farr specifications. New carbon rigging was fitted (Hall SCR) with Titanium fittings and an offshore carbon boom (with 2 reef locks) and a reinforced keel box. In preparing for the 2013 Transpac race the boat was completely stripped, lightened, water proofed, long boarded and re-painted inside and out.
On arrival in Australia in 2015, Koa was again stripped and overhauled, with every working part of the yacht removed, serviced, replaced or re-fitted. All of the electronics have progressively been replaced, with new GPS, B&G5000 processor and Garmin displays in 2019. A new compass and deck VHF relay were fitted in 2022.
An enlarged carbon front hatch was fitted in 2017. Carbon hand holds were fitted below for safety in 2018 and all through skin fittings were replaced. The engine was over hauled by Minards in 2018.
The boat was stripped and re-built again in Nov 2019 in preparation for the 2019 Sydney to Hobart race. The keel was removed with bolts dye tested and the keel re-fitted. The rudder was removed with bearings assessed, serviced and re-fitted. An additional ring frame was fitted in the bow area to Dovell Naval Architect specifications to strengthen the bow.
The rig has been removed and professionally inspected in 2015,2017,2019 and in Jan 2022. This included ultrasound of the stays, dye testing of the various fittings, removal and servicing of the various sheaves, locks and electrics, and examination of all of the solid carbon rod stays, terminals and turnbuckles. A new rod stainless steel forestay and PBO runners were fitted in Feb 2022.
Sheets, halyards, running gear, sails have been regularly updated.

NOTABLE RESULTS
Launched in late 2004, Koa (as Sjambok) won both the TP52 Winter Regatta and the Fort Lauderdale to Palm Beach Race. Koa (as Lucky) was the winner (IRC) of the 2010 Rolex Middle Sea Race, winner (IRC) of the 2013 Vietnam Race, and 2nd IRC in the 2013 Rolex China Sea Race.
Koa has been raced on the Australian race circuit since 2016 and has won many races at the highest level, often beating many much newer TP52's on IRC and ORC handicap. Notable results include 1st overall IRC / ORC and line honours 2017 Flinders Island Race, for which Koa remains the conventionally ballasted race record holder. Koa was 2nd overall IRC in the 2016 Sydney to Gold Coast race, winner of the inaugural TP52 Gold Cup regatta 2019 and winner IRC at Magnetic Island Race Week 2022. This year, Koa won under IRC the 2023 Cabbage Tree Island race and was second on IRC in the 2023 Brisbane to Hamilton Island race and the Flinders Island races.
Koa is sister ship to two-time Sydney to Hobart winning Quest / Balance, which is a great pedigree.

EXTENSIVE INVENTORY
The inventory includes many race rigging components, cat 1 safety gear, recently replaced Garmin
instruments, high spec Harken deck gear, a full wardrobe of good condition Doyle and North Sails carbon and composite racing sails, VHF and HF radios, spares parts, custom transport cradle and more. All of the equipment is stored off vessel in a container, which comes with the boat on sale.
