Benefitting from the latest developments in naval architecture thanks to VPLPs unrivalled experience in designing racing multihulls, the Lagoon 39 heralds a new generation in catamaran design. Immediately evident is the aft centred mast, seemingly freely suspended deckhouse, diamond-shaped bevelled bows, broad side decks and vertical glazing. But the pedigree of this catamaran goes way beyond first impressions.......
The Lagoon 39 is built with weight saving in mind. The hull, deck and bulkheads are infusion moulded. With less buoyancy required forward, the bows can be finer giving improved wave piercing power. The Alpi interior woodwork is lightweight composite material. The raised steering station offers a panoramic view, yet is well protected. And with all controls within easy reach this is an easy catamaran to sail.
By applying their racing experience and locating the mast further aft, VPLP have set new standards on a cruising catamaran. A more balanced rig reduces pitching; a shorter boom makes the mainsail easier to control; a large forward triangle gives more choice of foresails - a self tacking headsail is standard with options for larger downwind cruising sails; and a relatively narrower and higher square topped mainsail enhances performance.
