The Interceptor 55 is a 16.5m pilot boat based on our very successful deep V twin chine hull design that provides excellent performance and seakeeping. The 55 pilot is a heavily constructed pilot vessel, designed and engineered to withstand the tough demands of port pilotage operations, the design features an aft positioned wheelhouse providing the lowest accelerations for crew and pilots, however Safehaven's modular mould design allows the vessel to have several different configurations to suit the vessels intended operational requirement, with the design being fully customizable.

Volvo D16 Gear boxes: Twin Disc 5135 Engineering The Interceptor 55 is typically powered by Scanias D16 V8 engines rated at 650hp running through twin disc 5135 quick shift gearboxes, with stern gear comprising 63mm F51 Duplex shafts turning 28" 4 blade props supplied by Clements Engineering. She has an operational speed of 25kts on a 24,500kg displacement. The vessel has exceptionally low noise levels, with readings recorded in the wheelhouse of only 76db at 25kts, such noise levels were previously the realm of expensive and complicated isolated wheelhouse, but Safehaven have paid special attention to the engine rooms soundproofing, the result being the crew and pilots have a relaxed, quiet and vibration free working environment. Overview
The vessel is typically powered by 16 litre engines rated at 630hp running through twin disc 5114 quick shift gearboxes, with stern gear comprising 58mm F51 Duplex shafts turning 30" 4 blade propellers. She has an operational speed of 25kts on a 24,500kg lightship displacement and when powered by 750hp engines a speed of 28kts is achieved. The vessel has exceptionally low noise levels, with readings recorded in the wheelhouse of only 76db at 25kts, such noise levels were previously the realm of expensive and complicated isolated wheelhouse, but Safehaven pay special attention to the engine rooms soundproofing, the result being the crew and pilots have a relaxed, quiet and vibration free working environment.
Heavy duty rubber fendering supplied by Avon Rubber protects the hull with substantial 150x200mm fendering along her gunwale with numerous diagonals and a lower run along her 2nd chine just above the waterline, her bow is rounded allowing the fender to wrap around the bow in a continuous run.

She has a very high level of fit out throughout the craft with the large wheelhouse providing enough space to allow combining the standard 6 pilot seating arrangement (although seating for up to 12 pilots is available) on CAB hydraulic sprung seats, with a VIP area in the aft section of the cabin, comprising a very comfortable 6 person seating dinette with a table and a 6ft worktop opposite with substantial locker space incorporated. All internal furnishings are from walnut effect laminate, white headlining and grey sidelining providing a warm, high quality yet practical environment. However, one of the main advantages of Safehaven's design is the huge forward accommodation area allowed by placing the engines centrally under the wheelhouse. Forward there is sleeping accommodation afforded by traditional V berths combined with large bunk berths. A comfortable seating area alongside the large galley area, a full size heads compartment with sink, grey waste management with holding tanks. Large wet lockers and under deck storage enhance her functionality and provides a very comfortable crew environment
Our modular GRP mould allows different wheelhouse configurations, below are two Interceptor 55 pilot / patrol versions supplied to the Port of Southampton, UK with a more central wheelhouse configuration, allowing an aft work deck, See our 55 PATROL.
From an operational perspective, a centrally positioned helm position provides her coxswain with clear uninterrupted vision equally to port and st/bd, large side and overhead windows, all double glazed to prevent misting assist visibility when alongside ships. Her helm position has been especially designed to provide a focused and ergonomically efficient operators environment, which allows the coxswain to take full advantage of the Interceptors fine responsive handling. Typically, which is the case with all Safehaven's craft, her seakeeping is exceptional. Demonstration sea keeping videos undertaken in up to storm force 11 are viewable here; these conditions amply demonstrate her abilities. Safe and controllable running downwind, stable beam on and very soft punching into steep head seas are the Interceptors trademark.

Design
The Interceptor 55 is fully customizable in its configuration, the deck and superstructure moulding is modular in design, and this allows the superstructure to be positioned aft, for pilot boat vessels where a aft passenger seating area provides the lowest accelerations in rough seas and maximum crew comfort. In the 'Patrol' version, as in the Southampton pilot vessels a more central cabin position is preferable allowing an aft cockpit area, in this version the engines run on 'V' drives and allows them to be removed from an aft deck hatch, it also provides either a seating area or a deck cargo area for crew transfers. The design is full customizable in its internal seating and living arrangement.
