54 ft on deck 14 ft 6 beam x 5 ft 6 inch draft...... 64 ft L O A with bow sprit. And naturally it is powered by a 4LW GARDNER It is now in 1 E survey and can go in to 2C if required. It is currently in 1E for 33 plus 2. The survey is now in place for 5 years.

AN AMAZING PIECE OF HISTORY.... Please read on. I get asked to be involved in some interesting and inspirational vessels, and this is one of them! The launch date is shown as 2015, and that is correct, however - the boat first came to life in Broome in 1901 where it was launched as DOMINION. The vessel was wrecked on the beach and in 1924/5 was purchased by Captain Ancell Gregory. It was rebuilt and relaunched as the pearling lugger PAM. In the mid 1930's Pam was moved with part of Capt Gregory's Company fleet to Darwin - where it was engaged in collecting pearl shells in the waters of the Arafura and Timor seas. Pam survived the bombing of WW2 and resumed pearling after the war under the ownership of the Paspaley Pearl Company. Pam retired from pearling in 1970, and was eventually wrecked by cyclone Tracy.

The current owner purchased the wreck in 1988 and trucked it to Victoria, where it has been completely restored / rebuilt and surveyed as a new vessel. It can be classed as a new build because - all that remains of the original lugger is the SHAPE, the HISTORY the two masts and the anchor windlass.
EVERY other stick of timber is new - hence a 2015 rebuilt / repurposed / completely restored without alteration to the legacy of a Broome built pearling lugger.
It is believed to be Broome's oldest surviving pearling lugger, and also believed to be the oldest, commercially operated sailing ship in Australia. An enormous amount of effort has gone into retaining the authenticity of Pam's original shape. The current owner is a dedicated historian, and has remained painstakingly true to the restoration, and to the quality of the rebuild. I tip my hat to his tenacity.

The vessel has been working under the current owner as Pearl Lugger Cruises on the Gippsland lakes in Victoria.

To restore and rebuild to the exacting standards of PAM today, then a million dollars would be the deposit. Not to mention the 30 plus years of remaining true to the project. Just for the record, the current owner is not a multi millionair, he is a hands-on craftsman with energy and foresight to retain some of Northern Australia's early maritime history. I tip my hat to him again.

So where is the future for this eye-catching classic? How about an energetic young couple who could do a food and history cruise, maybe in the protected waters of the D'Entrecasteaux channel in southern Tasmania? Or how about a resort where young sailors could be taught how mariners sailed and made a living around the turn of last century? Or because of its restored condition, it could be just a lovely vessel to own, and enjoy as a mariner - for someone who'd like to make a statement about the type of vessel they wish to identify with. Just like owning a 1948 Jaguar.
Some of the Shipwrights involved in the restoration of this vessel were Neil Lacco and Erick Ericson - plus many others along the way.

Captain Ancell Gregory was a colourful and successful ships captain who had a fleet of luggers around the top end of Australia, and he is a complete history lesson in his own right.
