Plough Operations
Sweep Bar Dredging Operations also known as Drag Bar Operations or Ploughing is an environmentally friendly dredging solution with no dredged material being exposed to air. Therefor there are no acid sulphate issues and no land based disposal issues. Seabed material is simply moved underwater. High spots are relocated to low areas.
This 2609 is equiped with a DAMEN designed and supplied Plough System consisting of an A-Frame and two ploughs plus winches, controls, cables and procedures (one plough for soft material and the other for stiffer material).

The plough is suspended below the vessel's A-Frame at a known height and is then restrained by cables connected to the bow of the tug (see sketch in photos).
The tug drags the plough in a systematic manner cutting down high spots and depositing the cut material over adjacent low areas. Progress is monitored via onboard electronics and confirmed by post dredge survey.

If stiffer materials are encountered the vessel's second plough is equipped with the second plough, a DAMEN designed Water Jet Plough.
This plough is fitted with high pressure water jets nozzles all over the plough's cutting faces. These water jets are connected to pumps aboard the tug and will break up the stiffer material and allow the plough to cut down high spots and redistribute material to low areas.
