Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and embrace the freedom of river living aboard "Break Free", an impressive, dual-deck luxury houseboat offering exceptional space, comfort and commercial capability. Purpose-built for entertaining and accommodating large families and groups of friends, this substantial six-bedroom vessel combines the comforts of home as a live-aboard with the freedom of life on the water.
Custom-built by Richard Scrivens at the Houseboat Solutions slipway and first launched in 1997, Break Free is an AMSA Commercial Survey Class 4E, 12-berth hire/drive vessel. While currently operating outside a hire fleet, it is positioned to re-enter commercial hire/drive service, subject to the relevant approvals, providing a potential opportunity for the next owner to generate income and offset ownership costs.
Step inside the expansive, light-filled deckhouse through either the port or starboard glass sliding doors and discover a welcoming entertaining space featuring floor-to-ceiling tinted windows and a central helm equipped with Volvo Penta and VDO instrumentation, GME UHF radio, Pioneer CD stereo and generator controls. Relax in the near-new modular lounge and ottoman while enjoying the Samsung TV, DVD, and sound system, or gather around the generous 12-person dining setting. The recently updated U-shaped kitchen is beautifully appointed with stone benchtops, breakfast bar, Westinghouse dishwasher and oven, Ariston four-burner stove, microwave, pod coffee machine, exhaust fan and pantry. Year-round comfort is assured with Seeley evaporative air conditioning and Rinnai freestanding gas heating.
Accommodation is equally impressive, with six queen-sized walk-around bedrooms, all featuring built-in robes and cupboard storage. Three bedrooms have zip-apart bedding options for added flexibility. Two spacious, fully tiled bathrooms offer glass-enclosed showers, household-flush toilets and generous vanity cupboards, with two bedrooms enjoying convenient ensuite access to the bathrooms. A third toilet and powder room is located off the rear deck, adding extra convenience when entertaining.
Outdoor living is a standout feature. The stern deck provides access to the large swim platform through four folding gates, with a ladder leading to the impressive upper sundeck. A sunshade roof and marine-carpeted flooring create an inviting space for relaxing in the sunshine, enjoying outdoor dining and taking in the elevated river views. A Weber hooded BBQ, large esky, stainless-steel cleats, solid safety gating and a manual gangplank tucked beneath the foredeck complete the practical outdoor setup.
Designed for extended stays and greater independence, Break Free features a newly installed off-grid power system fitted October 2022, comprising a Selectronic SP Pro 4,500W inverter, Outback Flexmax controllers, twelve 370W solar panels providing 4.4kW of solar capacity, and twelve BAE 2V gel house batteries rated at 900Ah, supported by a Volvo Penta diesel 4.5kVA generator. Additional features include a Thermann instantaneous gas hot water system, 3,000-litre freshwater tank, 3,000-litre waste tank, 3,000-litre greywater tank, swim ladder, and lots more.
Powering this substantial vessel are twin Volvo Penta TMD31L four-cylinder turbo-diesel marine engines, each rated at 95hp, with just 2,855 hours of use. Both engines and the generator have been maintained and serviced by Don Morton Marine. Two onboard 400-litre fuel tanks provide a comfortable cruising range, while dedicated pontoon hatches allow convenient access to the engines and generator for servicing and maintenance.
With its last in-water survey completed in October 2026 and the next out-of-water AMSA survey due in October 2028, Break Free is currently fully insured through Club Marine and is stated to be compliant with applicable Electrical, Gas and EPA requirements. The existing berth may also be available to lease, subject to application and approval.
Located in the beautiful Lower Murray River region, Break Free is offered as a genuine walk-in, walk-out sale. Whether you're seeking an exceptional family escape/live-aboard, a spacious river retreat for entertaining, or a houseboat with potential commercial hire/drive opportunities, Break Free delivers an outstanding combination of accommodation, lifestyle and capability. This is a houseboat that must be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.
