"Moondarra" Steel Trawler
Currency
Length
49' 3" - 15.02m
Vessel Location
Rivergate Marina, Brisbane River
Launch Year
1982
Hull Material
Steel Galvanized from above the waterline
Built in Queensland in 1982 and enjoying an extensive refit from 2009
to 2021, Moondarra presents in exceptional condition as a
comfortable liveaboard and long-distance remote cruiser. She is
perfectly set up for a Top End, Kimberley and coastal expedition but
would go anywhere in comfort with her folding stabilisers, long-range
capability and quality Victron, Raymarine and ICOM instruments.
Galvanised steel from the waterline up ensures that maintenance is
made easy on the way with significant reduction in surface rust.
Her previous owner spared no expense in setting this vessel up with
quality systems and gear, from the functional and stylish galley,
beautifully set up helm station, comfortable queen-sized walk-around
bed to the use of no-maintenance Lami-panel lining throughout the boat
and fully flexible screened or enclosed aft deck living area with Bose
entertainment system and 42 inch Smart TV. A clever extension to
the aft superstructure added a full standing shower, storage area and
laundry, also enhancing her exterior aesthetic. Moondarara has
low engine hours (approx. 1400hrs) on the Puck 165 Delfin2 (ex Leyland
680B) diesel which pushes her along at around 7.5knots cruising at
12-15 L/hr. She also has 5000L diesel capacity for the engine and two
gensets. Moondarra is arguably one of the best maintained and
presented trawler-style options on today's market and demands an
inspection to appreciate her quality, as well as all the additional
options not listed here. She offers an idyllic solution to the current
housing shortage or the perfect lifestyle for an adventure-seeking
nomad.

During the refit a 1.3m extension was made to the wheelhouse. This extension provided a seperate shower, laundry and "storage shed". Strengthening frames were added to the shower ceiling to support the Hiab Crane above. The deck eves were extended to the rails and a wheelhouse facia was added. All extensions were made in 316 stainless steel. All ceiling and wall penels are removeable to allow access to the inside of the hull. A large wheelhouse floor hatch was installed to allow access for building materials and the mattress to the lower deck. In 2021 high quality carpet was laid in forward and master cabins, stairs and wheelhouse. Original Boat plans are available on request. Vessel was last hauled out and antifouled in 2023. Vessel has a large inventory of spares and consumables.
