Far from the mass-production boats of modern times, MY Tipsy Gypsy was built with classic, elegant lines - a typical four decker, with an extensive living and leisure space, she is an "eye-catcher" both at marinas and out at open seas. Custom built in 1993 by MIT in Greece under ABS Register, with a steel hull faired in compound and GRP superstructure, she boosts approximately 500 sqm of living space, with a length of 40 m, beam of 7.5 m and a max draft of 2.5 m. She was built with the safety and comfort of her passengers as the focal point - highly seaworthy, safe and reliable in the roughest of seas - with durable steel hull with plates of 10 mm will certainly ensure her safety even in the harshest trans-ocean passages. Built as a commercial yacht, she complies with stricter rules (akin to those applied to commercial passenger vessels) than private yachts, used for recreational purposes.
She accommodates 12 guests into 6 cabins, all ensuite; 4 cabins are provided for a crew of 7. For day trips, the safety equipment is provided for up to 50 guests.
The propulsion and power generating machinery were carefully chosen to ensure reliability in operation and safety of the passengers - as an ocean- going ship, she will provide her guest with total freedom to explore the world's oceans, roaming wherever their desire takes them. Twin Deutz TBD 604B V12 engines (still in production today), will take her at 12 knots to about 3000 NM. To note that the engines are only 5500 running hours, heavily underutilized. She performs like a modern thoroughbred explorer but with the timeless appeal of a classic yacht
Power generation is ensured by two independent MAN diesel generators, each of 92 KWh, each of sufficient power to take the load of the yacht under any circumstance. Additionally, a Koehler harbour generator of 20 KWH is provided in the steering gear.
Continuous refits and investments have kept her at the highest standard. She has just completed her periodical docking at the end of May 2025, with all necessary repairs/overhauls/upgrades undertaken meticulously in Singapore. A larger swi, mming platform was fitted on this ocasion - making her ready for a complete liveaboard experience - a Bauer MV air compressor being also added.
