'THE BAY BIRD' is a professionally built power cruiser, possessing a Moreton Bay design style that is well suited for close coastal, bay cruising, sports fishing and appropriate longer passages. She is well known up and down the coasts of Qld and NSW. With her long history, the vessel has been accepted into the 'Australian Register of Historical Vessels' in December 2012, and since purchased by current owner in 2014, he had commissioned a total vessel refurbishment with a 'whatever it takes' of time, expense and quality fitments and specified all to be professionally installed by shipwright craftsmen. This includes mechanical and electrical work as well as stainless steel, timber and paint.
The vessel has had extensive work carried out on all of her underwater surfaces, while on deck and aboard there were extra equipment and fittings installed, particularly, a refresh of the navigation instrumentation and all of the safety items. She also received a refresh of the exterior paintwork and this to a high quality level with several other specialised vessel safety equipment items also installed; such as the renewal of all of the hoses aboard, the electrical cables and the electric systems.

Accommodation
Step in through either of the sliding bridge doors off the walkaround decks and you enter a time past. Extensive use of silky oak and Queensland maple are a feature here. You can get a feel for the way these purpose built vessels were made by just looking up at the coachroof. There is a simple dining table with seating to starboard and a long settee that could double as another berth if needed to port. The helm is forward of here and this has been included in the recent refit. Stepping down and forward on center-line there is a full sized shower compartment to starboard and head/vanity to port. Forward again into the double vee berth. Heading back out and through the saloon and galley you have a lovely cabin that doubles as a second berth or just more seating when required. Step up and aft out of her leads you onto the rear cockpit. Access forward from here around the decks is clear and you have a large outdoor storage area above the saloon and galley area that is under a full deck cover. Forward out onto the forward deck is easily done and there is plenty of room here for the sunworshipers among us. Also here is a sun-shade set up on stainless steel rails. Quality paints over timber surfaces and varnished timber internally add to her appeal.

Remarks
The Bay Bird is a classic (in all sense of the word) reliable and comfortable cruiser that oozes 1950 style. She will make an ideal liveaboard to continue her extensive cruising history, or as a home base tucked up in one of the many anchorages on the east coast. All windows allow a great amount of lighting and natural breezes to flow through the vessel. The current owner has lived aboard and cruised single handed for some time and has commissioned the extensive refit work he felt she deserved, with a no expense spared attitude.
