The Sun Odyssey 49 DS has a loyal following among owners who want a proper sailing yacht they can also live aboard. Philippe Briand drew the hull, which she shares with the Sun Odyssey 49i, so she is stiff, sea kindly and makes good progress under sail. Above it Jeanneau built a raised deck saloon with long windows, so you can see out from the saloon table and the galley. That matters on a wet evening at anchor or a long day on passage. With lines led to the cockpit and furling sails, a couple can handle her without calling on extra crew.
Klaudia is a 2007 example, Spanish flagged and equipped to Category 1 ocean standard. Her owner does much of the work himself and keeps on top of it. She is dry and complete, though her teak decks are badly worn and will need replacing soon. A buyer should plan for that from the outset.
Elsewhere, most of the expensive jobs have been done. Standing and running rigging were renewed in 2024, a new ZF gearbox was fitted in 2023, and at her March 2026 haul out she was serviced, antifouled and given new keel bolts. The genoa furler was overhauled in 2025 and the windlass replaced this year. Her sails are looked after by a specialist loft, and she carries a 2021 gennaker with snuffer and a 2019 jib alongside the working sails. For passage making she has an Iridium GMDSS terminal, Navtex, a 12 person SOLAS liferaft, Furuno radar, AIS and a new Raymarine P70 autopilot.
She comes with four double cabins, three heads and everything aboard, from tools and spares to bedding and towels. A new owner could step on and sail.

I owned a Sun Odyssey 49 DS from new for eight years, so I know these boats well. They sail better than most people expect, handle comfortably with two aboard, and the deck saloon earns its keep every time the weather turns. The market has plenty of boats of this age still waiting for their rigging and electronics to be done, with the bill passed to the buyer. Klaudia has had that money spent on her. The teak deck is the one significant job left to do, and I would rather a buyer knew that now than found it at survey. With it allowed for, she is a sound, ocean equipped yacht and I would encourage an early viewing.
