"TORPILOT" is a custom built, solid GRP offshore cruiser designed by the legendary Clem Masters for the Australian Reef Pilots. She served with distinction in the Torres Strait, Papua New Guinea and Great Barrier Reef. This vessel is an icon of Australian shipping and much loved by all who had the privilege of working on her. Now retired from commercial service and faithfully converted to private use by the former Reef Pilots CEO and current owner, she retains all her original attributes - seaworthiness, stability, dependability, economy of operation and high safety standards. Ideally suited for offshore or bay fishing. Accommodation is limited but she is a great cruiser for a couple for long weekends on the bay or forays well offshore chasing that "big one" with the mates. She has proven her seagoing credentials with several long distance passages between Brisbane, Cairns, Weipa and Port Moresby via the outer Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea. She is set up for short-handed operation with everything operable from the wheelhouse helm station.
Notably, this version of the Masters 34 is the sedan model without the top-heavy flybridge. She therefore has a very low centre of gravity with consequent high stability and comfortable sea motion.
Powered by a commercially rated Cummins 6BTA5.9M marine diesel @ 208 kW, she cruises economically at 8 knots @ 9 L/hr but has plenty of power to reach 16 knots top speed and comfortably cruises at 12 knots all day. The engine has only 1650 running hours since new and has been professionally serviced according to Cummins schedules. A 10 kVA Fischer Panda generator provides plenty of onboard 240 V power and the boat is also wired for shore power with two separate intelligent battery chargers. Fuel tankage is 700 L (range about 500 miles @ 8 knots with 20% reserve) and fresh water 170 L.
A full suite of Garmin electronics includes two chart plotters, RADAR, autopilot, dual frequency high power depth sounder (to 1,000 M). VHF DSC radio by Icom and Inmarsat satphone.
Safety equipment includes 8 person life raft, EPIRB, SOLAS lifejackets, engine room fixed fire smothering system with remote release and alarm, plumbing for sea water fire pump. All of this equipment is as per AMSA offshore commercial vessel standards.
Accommodation is quite basic but well presented and consists of a double berth forward cabin, spacious galley area with 240 V fridge/freezer, portable cooking appliances, large pantry, bathroom with seperate shower compartment and macerating electric marine toilet with 20 L holding tank, hot water system, single full length settee berth in saloon. The interior has been recently refurbished and upholstered to a presentable commercial finish. A new owner could easily reconfigure the interior for more berths or dinette area if required.
Externally, she has an expansive cockpit that is very adaptable to suit both family lounging and serious bluewater fishing. The side decks are extra wide providing a level of safety expected from a seagoing pilot vessel. Anchoring equipment consists of a 30 kg Delta with 60 M X 10 mm galv. Chain and Muir horizontal windlass with remote control from wheelhouse. Heavy duty rubber fendering surrounds the entire gunnel of the vessel for protection when docking. A stern swim platform with retractable ladder provides easy access to the water and can be used for stowage of an inflatable tender (not included in sale).
