"Ara Roa" - A Maori word that translates to "The Long Road. " It is used to describe the adventurous and less travelled path one can take exploring our world. I couldn't think of a more apt name for this stunning Nordhavn 60 as she epitomises taking the long road anywhere her owners' desire.
Marley Cutbush from Nordhavn Yachts Australasia and Flagship International is proud to present the 2013 Nordhavn 60 "Ara Roa" to the Market.
The Nordhavn 60 is the most popular model in the extensive Nordhavn range and for good reason. An evolution of the extremely popular Nordhavn 55, the N60 offers all the 55 delivers but with outdoor living and space in mind. Her additional cockpit, saloon and boat deck space really changes the game for the N60 and makes her a true expedition yacht that is usable in all climates and conditions in absolute comfort.
Seldom do N60's come on the brokerage market in the Asia Pacific region. Even more rare is a 60 of such impeccable presentation that has been lovingly owned and cared for since she broke her mold.
Ara Roa, an Australian registered ship, was originally delivered to her Australian owner in the USA and named "Last Samurai. " Her commissioning owner came with vast Nordhavn cruising experience and the design and options fitted to Ara Roa reflect this intimate knowledge and make her a truly spectacular vessel.
"Ara Roa" represents a rare opportunity to secure not only an extremely well presented Nordhavn 60 ready for immediate delivery, but a vessel that has been owned and operated by experienced Nordhavn owners whose extensive knowledge is evident in every aspect of the initial customisation and ongoing upkeep of "Ara Roa" and her systems. The level of safety, redundancy, operational ease, and utmost luxury that "Ara Roa" delivers is a result of loving ownership throughout her relatively short life.
She gave the original commissioning owner the opportunity to explore North America's northwest coast from Dana Point up through Canada and into Alaska before returning down the Baja peninsula to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. From here she changed custodians before completing the mighty Pacific Crossing. Taking on the Pacific Ocean is no small feat and an accomplishment that one might thought not possible in a 60ft motorboat, but for a Nordhavn 60 like "Ara Roa", this is the challenge she was built for. Excited to get miles under her keel, the listing broker, Marley Cutbush, was asked by her new Australian Owner to deliver her to Sydney, Australia. Excited for the adventure of a lifetime Marley spent a few weeks in Mexico learning the vessel and her systems, passage planning and provisioning for the voyage. With the new owner now onboard, she was steamed effortlessly from Cabo to Nordhavn HQ in Dana Point before the 15-day passage to Hawaii. From Honolulu, it was a relatively short run down to Fanning Island in the Line Islands, where the crew enjoyed local island life, surfing, fishing and exploring in some of the most remote islands in the world. From there down to Samoa, then on to Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia then on to Sydney, Australia. This staggering adventure was completed in utmost comfort and safety and without hiccup. As the owner at the time put it "You don't look after a Nordhavn, it looks after you"
The current owners have owned Ara Roa for the last four years. Initially purchasing to 'escape' the COVID lock-down restrictions of their home state Victoria, they discovered 'apartment style' live-aboard luxury. As foreign travel was restricted or plain disallowed, they spent the first couple of years travelling up and down the Queensland coast from Brisbane to Lizard Island as well as long trips to the remote Coral Sea cays including Willis Island, Herald islands, Diamond Islets and others. With cruising paths opening up again, they took Ara Roa to NZ and then circumnavigated the North Island over the ensuing year. The next stop was Tonga / Fiji - with an extended time in the remote Lau chain of islands. Ara Roa's most recent blue-water crossing saw her returning to home base, Gold Coast, Australia.
This summary of the adventure and genuine expedition highlights the sheer capability of Ara Roa and the places she can take her owners. Perhaps more importantly, it also reinforces that Ara Roa's systems are now all proven. It's not a vessel that "you could take through the Pacific" She is a vessel that has done it and is ready to go again. It's time for her new owner to capitalise on the robust design and proven capability of Ara Roa and enjoy her with refinements complete, all systems embedded and upgrades completed, ready to take her new custodians on the adventure of a lifetime.
"Ara Roa" is the popular 3 cabin layout boasting a palatial full beam master cabin and private ensuite, along with a luxurious queen VIP cabin, also fully ensuited. This allows for 2 couples to cruise in absolute comfort and privacy. The pilothouse cabin also boasts a double bed really making her unique family yacht. Her highly upgraded interior is luxurious with its cherry grain wood, Teak and Ebony floors, custom granite countertops, Italian granite floors in wet areas and galley and extensive refrigeration and storage utilisation.
Ara Roa is truly a world cruiser designed to operate in all conditions. Her electrical system is a 50htz system which is designed to operate easily in the Asia-Pacific, Australia, NZ and Europe; however, this system, when coupled with the multiple shore power receptacles, transformer and 50/60Hz chargers means "Ara Roa" operates with all systems at any dock in the world. Her ABT track stabilisers and full keel loaded with 5 tonnes of lead ballast will ensure she is stable and comfortable and capable of taking on conditions that no other production motorboat would even consider.
"Ara Roa" effectively presents like new in every respect. He modest engine and generators hours are really all that would set her apart from a significantly younger boat. Therefore, she offers a unique opportunity to immediately own one of the most popular Nordhavn models in the current production line and she is ready and proven to take her new owners on exciting adventures anywhere in the world.
Like all Nordhavn's the quality and craftsmanship evident in the interior joinery work is incredible and "Ara Roa" is a fine example of this having been spec'd in a Cherry wood with a satin finish. This gives the vessel a warm and elegant feel while the light carpets and modern upholstery, and newly replaced headliners throughout brighten the interior and complements the contemporary feel of the vessel. The settees are all covered with ultra-leather material for high durability and a luxurious feel.
You enter the salon by way of a large Dutch watertight door, and one is immediately taken back by the immense volume and warm feel. Even from the dock it's hard to fathom she is only 60ft with a towering boat and commanding ship-like presence.
All who step inside a Nordhavn 60's saloon comment that the first impression is that she's a significantly larger vessel. The asymmetric walkway down the starboard side not only gives the saloon an incredible beam, but the high deckheads and large picture windows give the saloon a feeling of volume and light.
Her outstanding qualities and value are exemplified by meticulous maintenance and redundancy of critical extended voyaging systems. Regrettably recent and serious health concerns have meant the owners have had to draw a line in the sand on boating at this time. Their philosophy is that a Nordhavn is meant to be actively used and that they simply cannot give her that commitment as they concentrate on recovery. Therefore "Ara Roa" unexpectedly offers her next custodian a unique opportunity to immediately own one of the most popular Nordhavn models in the current production line - and she is ready and proven to take her new owners on exciting adventures anywhere in the world.
