End of an era!!
After almost 40 years of ownership the good ship Topaz 2 is reluctantly being offered for sale.
We are the second owners of this beautiful, very practical and comfortable classic Huon pine Pompei motor cruiser, built in circa 1970. She has been our family's pride and joy for almost 4 decades. Unfortunately, the family has now outgrown her and it is time for her to be passed on to her next custodian, who will enjoy years of safe and economical cruising.
She is a capable enclosed and coastal water cruiser, having cruised extensively around Port Phillip Bay, and even undertaking trips to Hobart, King Island, and the north coast of Tassie, with her 450l fuel capacity (in two stainless tanks), she has significant range for a vessel of her size. Couple that with 400l of water, extended stays are more than possible.
Accommodation for 4,3 berths forward and the fourth in the wheelhouse/saloon. Enclosed shower with hot and cold water. Transom shower for rinsing off after a swim from the teak swim platform.
Moving through the boat, starting in the self-draining cockpit, which is an ideal fishing area, large bait board, ample lockers for fishing gear, rope locker and large icebox, saltwater deck wash.
Step in through the sliding aft door into the full lock up cabin, on the Starboard side you will notice a long couch/berth, the large 2-way (240v and LPG) fridge, and Microwave, on the port side is the chart table which can be folded up to make another 2-seater settee, 12volt Digital TV with DVD player, then onto the wide comfortable helm seat which can seat 2 if you're friendly, practical helm station with good visibility, sliding hatch above, Autopilot, Chart plotter, VHF, HF and 27MHz radios, .
Moving down to the lower level on the starboard side again, is the galley with gas oven, grill, and 2 burner stove (new in 2019), sink with both cold fresh and salt water.
Over on the port side is the head with marine toilet, and shower, both, hot (via heat exchanger), and cold water.
Further forward is the accommodation, with a fold up table in between.
And finally, the forepeak area for access to forward hatch and 24v anchor winch.
Extensive storage throughout the boat, under bunks, under floor, cupboards, under settee, draws under helm seat, even a small bar under the helm seat.
Topaz 2 is well powered by a H6-354 Perkins diesel fastidiously maintained by the diesel mechanic owner, with only 2500hrs since complete reconditioning, providing 7-8kn cruising speed @ 1500rpm, and with the option of hoisting a steadying sail if required.
Other notable features include,
- Both 12v and 24v alternators,
- 2 x 100Ah starting batteries and 2 x 100Ah house batteries
- 300 feet of 3/8" tested anchor chain and CQR anchor (spare Danforth and Fishermans as well),
- Extensive inventory of spare parts aboard,
- Full walkaround decks with handrails,
- Out of water survey completed December 2023,
- Huon pine carvel construction,
- Gas detector,
- Stereo, with upper and lower speaker,
- LED lighting throughout,
- Spotlight, foredeck flood light, cockpit flood lights,
- Auto and manual bilge pumps, also with engine driven bilge pump.
Far too many more features to list, an inspection is a must to truly appreciate this brilliant little boat
This has been a very difficult decision to make as Topaz 11 is a part of the family, she has provided countless enjoyable times aboard, and will be sadly missed.
