REDUCE
SPACECAT 36
REDUCE is not only the name of the latest yacht launched from Silver Yachts, the 36-meter SPACECAT, it also represents the very philosophy around which the yacht has been designed and built, from the choice of the most efficient marine platform to the choice of propulsors and to the choice of hull and superstructure materials, aluminum being the lightest, strongest, and most easily recyclable construction material for yachts this size.
When Guido Krass and Espen Oeino came together once more to redefine the modern sustainable yacht, they took the already super-efficient slender monohulls, which define the first generation of Silver Yachts, to the next level by going for even more slender (thus more efficient) designs and paired them in the form of a catamaran to provide transverse stability while creating a perfect platform for the floating summer house, which, in the end, is what most yachts are all about.
At 36 meters overall length by 13 meters beam, the length-to-beam ratio of a catamaran resembles more a house than a yacht, making it the perfect platform for exactly that--the ultimate mobile family summer house with most guest and owner's spaces on deck as opposed to below deck.
With 400 m² of interior space and more than 450 m² of exterior deck space, REDUCE provides ample room for both crew and guests. Yet, at 483 GT, the vessel comes in under the 500 GT mark, making crewing and operations less costly and much easier while still providing the big boat feeling only a 13-meter beam can offer.
The large yacht background of Silver Yachts is immediately felt when onboard REDUCE, with large windows, high ceiling heights, generous staircases, and corridors combined with the substantial beam.
The very low hull resistance makes it possible to reduce propulsion power and thus the engine room spaces, offering more room for crew and services.
The Volvo Penta IPS pods have an extremely high propulsive efficiency, which, when combined with the low resistance of the slender hulls, propel the vessel to a top speed of 24 knots and a very economical cruising speed of 18 knots. At 12 knots, using only two of the four engines, the fuel consumption is a modest 130 liters per hour, providing a range of 3,300 nautical miles, including a 10% reserve. The very modern Volvo Penta engines are fully Tier III compliant, reducing emissions to the minimum, and come with a fully integrated joystick system, making maneuvering and handling extremely easy.
In times of increased cost of yacht ownership as well as increased complexity at all levels, REDUCE exemplifies Silver Yachts' attempt at reducing some of the factors leading to these developments, hoping this next generation of yachts will meet the demand from both existing and new yacht owners.
