DT HORIZON is a 42.7m steel commercial vessel, recently in AMSA 2B & 2C Survey.
Originally built as the MV OSPREY she was renamed the BLUE NABILLA when purchased by the National
Security Council in 1987. The ship was then purchased by the RAN in 1990 to assist with the Collins Class Submarine
trials and mine warfare related tasks and renamed the HMAS Protector. At some stage she has been
lengthened from 33.16 metres to 42.7 metres.
The wheelhouse offers very good visibility in all directions with both forward and aft manoeuvring controls. There is an array of electronic equipment listed
below. Main engines and thrusters are controlled by FWD and AFT LIPS-STICK controls.
The vessel is currently out of survey and will require dry docking prior to going back into commercial service in Australian waters.
