S/V Ponyo is Bob Oram 60 - fast, safe and comfortable blue water cruising catamaran that is ready to go on the next adventure!
200-250nm days are easily achieved in downwind conditions allowing you to make passages between NZ and tropics in 5-6 days. Family of 4 lived on the boat for the past 3 years and cruised extensively in New Zealand and Fiji. We were getting the boat ready to sail to French Polynesia but had change of plans and decided to settle on land instead. Boat has been meticulously maintained and continuously upgraded with significant refits in 2017 and 2020.
Speed is safety
Less time in the middle of the ocean reduces your risk of encountering bad weather. Boat is fast enough allowing you to move out of the way of any weather system that might develop along the way. For island hopping being able to move at 10+ knots puts a lot of places within an easy day sail instead of being an overnight endeavour. Timing daylight hours, tides and pass currents makes so much easier when you can get there early.
The boat has lots of sealed airtight compartments throughout the hull meaning it is virtually impossible to sink even in event of major collision.
Comfort
The boat has incredibly smooth and comfortable motion at sea and in the anchorage - 60ft long with slender hulls and wave piercing bows allows the boat to cut through the waves and reduces pitching motion. When travelling at 10+ knots the motion is further improved and boat feels like it is on rails. Galley upstairs with clear view of horizon and plenty of fresh air, toilet/shower at the bridge deck for easy access without having to go down below, main cabins centrally positioned over the bridge deck with headrest areas by the mast base for optimal motion.
Well protected helm station offers fantastic protection from the elements - you can sail in your PJs and not get cold or wet, this increases enjoyment and reduces fatigue. Everything can be controlled from the safety of the cockpit - you can hoist/reef/drop sails all from there. Reef Rite in-boom furling for the mainsail is vey convenient. The boat is set up for shorthanded sailing, ideal for couples / families.
