A beautiful Farrier720 TT that has subtle modifications on an Australian built Oceanic tandem trailer. After owning this beautiful boat for nearly 28 years, sadly due to me being 80 years old next birthday and ready for knee replacements it is time for me to say good bye to Tri Arda (try harder).
I understand that she was professionally built in Victoria around 1990 and had a successful racing history. I purchased her in 1996 and have spent in excess of $100,000 keeping the boat immaculate including an extensive restoration in 2014/16 using West System epoxy for modifications and any repairs. She is still currently insured for $80,000.00 which includes the trailer. A marine surveyor conducted a survey inspection earlier this year.
Tri Arda has just completed a $15,000 refurb, which included new full Ferrari tramps all around, revarnish and flow coat inside, new galley, new ropes/halyards, 3 new flexible solar panels, all new inspection ports; etc etc. All work carried out by a registered shipwright on the Gold Coast.
In consultation with a marine architect, I had a well know Gold Coast ship wright fully dissemble the boat for restoration purposes and also make some subtle modifications which included putting a sugar scoop on the rear; lengthening the armas ( FOAM/carbon fibre); New cabin roof ( foam panel) with gas struts( marine grade stainless). The cabin can be fully enclosed with the roof lid open and this provides protection from insects/ rain but can also allow air flow.
I changed the wooden tiller and rudder box to marine grade stainless steel frame and put on a stainless steel Bimini. The Bimini has side shades to keep the sun off. The stainless tiller can be folded up out of the way.... And can be fitted with an outside drop in table. The original ice box was also enlarged.
I am a cruiser not a racer ( too old)..... But the beautiful laminated sails will certainly get Tri Arda moving. It has tramps on the front /rear that can be taken off or made smaller. I have them for safety due to my age. I am tall and had the shipwright made a drop in demountable east west (Duflex foam composite) removable double bed.
Engine.
It originally had a 7.5 hp 2 stroke motor which was hopeless in some places that had strong currents. I then tried a 9.9 Honda 4 stroke, but still found that going against strong currents off shore it was not up to the job. It now had a 20 hp Honda electric start/tilt which is fantastic. The motor has only done 17 hours and fitted with a Honda engine meter. Of course it is a heavier motor than most, but for an old boy like me the benefits are worth it and the extra buoyancy of the lengthened armas lets the boat sit beautifully in the water.
