Exceptional Value after two refits
Fully equipped and ready to explore or as a 'home-from-home' in the Med
For sale by the second owner, and very well maintained, a lovely Horizon 47 trawler-style motor yacht made to Norsk Veritas standards.
This comfortable yacht has benefitted from much care and several substantial improvements by the long-term Owner who is experienced, fastidious, and enjoys this Horizon 47 trawler yacht.
Example of consistent maintenance and improvements include:
* full Osmosis treatment in 2010
* new teak decks in 2022
* adding solar panels and an inverter with new batteries in 2022
* new: double sinks: hob: and microwave in 2010
* many new canopies and upholstery in 2022.
Those investments help provide energy independence for days at a time and there is also an Onan generator for a battery top-up as needed.
The galley, as in all Horizon trawler-style yachts, is all-electric with an American style fridge-freezer in addition to the above.
The large fuel tanks can provide a cruise range of approximately 600 miles so one can be 'off-grid' for several days at a time.
Comfortably equipped with high-class fabrics throughout, this is a very capable and luxurious cruiser.
The two cabins are large, each has en-suite facilities, and being situated at either end of this vessel provide a 'big ship' sense of privacy.
The central saloon is elegantly finished with high-quality fabrics, with blinds and curtains providing privacy.
The aft cockpit is another safe environment being fully enclosed with an additional drinks refrigerator.
The two engines are Caterpillar V8 diesels that are non-turbo for economy and reliability.
The counter-rotating propellors and the vessel's hull shape grip the water to assist manoeuvring in marinas.
This Horizon 47 trawler yacht is a substantial vessel offering superb value for money.
Fully equipped including a tender and outboard.
UK Tax paid.
Part 1 Registered for secure Transfer of Title.
Details and Specification
Accommodation and Layout
From the bow going aft, the guest cabin has a large double bed on the boat's centre-line with plenty of storage in lockers.
To one side, the en-suite facilities include a hand-basin, shower, and an electric Sanilav SN31 heads (to the holding tank) that uses fresh water to reduce odour.
A short passage-way leads towards the saloon.
* To port, off that passage-way, is the galley that has been sympathetically upgraded. Gone is the old oven to be replaced by a micro-wave and an electric ceramic-top hob (no gas on board this vessel).
The tall American fridge/freezer is dual voltage.
* To starboard, off that passage-way, is the dinette with seating and a table for dining with its cosy atmosphere.
Up some steps to the saloon and to starboard is the elevated vessel's command console with wheelhouse sliding door to the side-deck. To either side of the steering wheel are the gearbox selectors and engine throttle controls.
As well as the engine instrumentation there is a full suite of navigation equipment including: Raytheon Log and Echo Sounder; Raytheon Radar; an Autohelm Autopilot; and a Huson 60/Kelvin Hughes type VHF radio.
The saloon has extensive settee-type seating to port with a coffee table. To starboard is a wet bar, cocktail cabinet and a TV storage locker. All windows have both blinds and curtains.
Steps at the aft end of the saloon lead up to the aft cockpit, a significant area for entertaining, being enclosed with full-length hard-top and new side screens. As well as a table and chairs there are storage lockers for safety equipment including an 8 man liferaft (requires servicing). For al-fresco dining there is a cockpit galley with sink, cooking area, and a free standing refrigerator.
A few steps lead up to the flybridge with the recently recovered seats and:
- duplicate gearbox and engine control
- duplicate engine instrumentation
- Raytheon VHF
- Raytheon Log and Echo Sounder
- Garmin Chart Plotter.
Decks and Equipment
On the bow is a recently purchased Delta 40kg anchor with, also recently, an additional 30 metres of chain added to the previous length of chain. The Owner reports that, when anchoring, it is now often the case that little chain is required to make fast because the anchor is so effective.
The electric windlass is a heavy-duty model made by Maxwell.
New teak decks were commissioned in 2022 and there are photographs concerning their construction before installation.
The flybridge has ample seating, all of which has been recently recovered. Together with all the regular engine and navigation instrumentation there are gearbox control levers to one side of the steering wheel and engine throttle levers to the other side.
At flybridge level, behind the solar panels, is the crane for the Zodiac 3.5 metre dinghy with its Honda 2.5 hp outboard. Engine.
Electrical, Galley and Navigation
Solar Panels, Batteries, and Inverter
In late 2023 new solar panels were installed together with a new inverter controller and new batteries (plus a new battery charger and change-over switches).
One of those 200Amp/hour batteries is dedicated to start the port engine and the other two batteries of the same capacity supply the 'domestic' voltage circuits.
Thus, 'Mood Swing' has full 230V and 12V capability providing independence from both marina and/or shore connections reducing the need to run either an engine or the generator to top up the batteries.
The generator has its own 125 Amp/hour battery (new in 2023) for the ONAN 6.5 KVA generator.
Unless otherwise stated, the boat's electrical system is 12 volt.
In the galley the American fridge/freezer has a dual-voltage input and is so reliable that there has been no advantage in replacing it.
The original oven was removed and a new ceramic electric hob installed together with a new microwave oven.
In the aft cockpit there is a 230 volt refrigerator to keep drinks cool.
Navigation equipment is located at both the internal command console and the external flybridge station and can be summarised as:
* Internally at Command Console
Raytheon Log and Echo Sounder
Raytheon Radar
Autohelm Autopilot
Huson 60/Kelvin Hughes type VHF radio.
* Externally on Flybridge
Raytheon Log and Echo Sounder
Autohelm Autopilot
Raytheon VHF
Garmin Chart Plotter.
Engines and Tanks
The two Caterpillar V8 diesel engines are normally aspirated (non-turbo) for economy and ease of maintenance. They are regularly serviced and the next full service is booked for March 2026. Both engines start quickly, run very well with no smoke, and show the recommended oil pressures and temperature.
The port engine has a calorifier providing hot water through the heat-exchanger.
In 2010 the raw water seacocks were replaced as were the raw water pumps on each engine as a precaution. In 2014 replacement alternators were fitted.
The engines have only about 2,250 hours on each and now only run about 75 hours per year.
In the engine room the ONAN 6.5 kVA Generator has about 1,600 hours in total and was last serviced in 2022.
There are two fuel tanks for the diesel, one for each engine, and each holds approximately 1,200 litres.
The single stainless steel water tank holds about 800 litres
There is also a holding tank with overboard and pump-out facilities.
